I have seen most of Lewis's fights, unfortunately none of Young's full fights except Cooney. Ive been trying to watch Young vs Foreman, Norton, Ali, for a while my internet is a droid so its hard to watch a whole fight. Anyway from what Ive read a prime Young had a superb defense that was hard to penetrate, as well as terrific footwork, feints, use of angles, and mind games ala weird facial expressions etc. So could Jimmy Young outbox, frustrate, and outsmart Lennox? Does Lennox's Size, reach, jab, power, right cross, inside/game uppercut, prove too much for Young? Thoughts please, and feel free to mention favorite performances by Young and stylistic analysis. Thanks.
an easy win for Jimmy. Lewis way too one dimensional, slow, for Young. 15 rd fight, if lewis could even go 15, dec or ko for Young
:rofl Young and Shavers both taking on Lennox Lewis in the house, today. It's like I'm stuck in the middle of a bad pugilistic sketch comedy.
Possibly Young could make Lewis look awful and it's hard to be sure how Lewis would deal with someone cagey and elusive like that. But I think Lewis would take charge as the fight progresses and hammer out a solid win in a fight he and the rest of us would rather forget.
Lewis wins the rounds. Jab keeps Young too far on the outside to be effective. LL is out of range for Young's counters. He has to change his trajectory and punch up to land. He also has to take a half step to close that gap. Young was extremely effective at countering but not moving his feet when doing it. that also takes a ton of conditioning to pull off. He'd have to work twice as hard as Lewis to do anything. All Lewis has to do is throw a single jab and move.
Young could make anyone look bad and he'd make Lewis look bad too,,but it's hard to see Jimmy beating Lennox. Of course in a 15 round fight Jimmy's chances go up.
Jimmy Young at his best was not a boxer to be underestimated. He had two wins over Lyle, beat Foreman, had a draw and a loss with Shavers and went the distance with Ali and Norton, losing a split decision to Ken. He was clever and a durable fighter in his prime. I think Lennox at his best wins this though. He's bigger, a good boxer and a more powerful puncher with a strong jab to keep opponents at distance while Jimmy himself could be a little defensively-minded and not a big KO artist generally at top level so he may not have the power to really dent Lewis. Jimmy might have had the durability, skills and cagey style to go the distance in another decision loss. Lewis UD.
Young could look like a winner here, for a while, but for the fact he'd unlikely push the envelope for victory. Lewis stays consistent and demonstrates the better work, to take it by comfortable UD.
