Who would you favor in a matchup between the Beterbiev (Nail fight) and the prime version of Kova from the Cleverly fight?
He also has some terrible attributes for 'branding' and 'marketing' in the current sporting industry. - Although technically 'diverse' and not actually European, he looks white to all but the most discerning viewers. People pretend there's a search for 'white hopes', but it's clearly not what media and corporations are looking for if you know a little more about how our society works now. So he's in no man's land there. - Although an exciting fighter, he is a Muslim, meaning he is not an exciting 'brand' for the hedonist youth. He's not going to have the lifestyle fitting for the current times. This ties into the fact he makes a terrible cash cow for peddling brands. What corporation will think the married guy who doesn't party is going to make their latest consumer item more fashionable? Despite his aura, Beterbiev couldn't even play the bad boy in a boy band because instead of making headlines on the town he'd be at home getting cooked meals from his wife. - Being a Muslim in America is going to seriously limit his market there. And to make matters worse, though he's Muslim, he's a white looking Muslim, so it's harder to get the 'market' someone like Khan gets worldwide. Summary: In North America, being a white looking Muslim who will make a terrible brand mascot for 'Western' culture is a nightmare promotional mix for corporate worms. Nobody knows what 'demographic' to sell him to or what they can sell through him.
This, and when he smashed Cloud, people were ****ing excited about him.But then, nothing really happened for the next 3 years. Brutalized Campillo, but the Spaniard was already way past his prime.
And his personality, or lack of thereof. Golovkin managed to say some goofy things and people ate it up.
Beterbiev, and I'll tell you why. Ward had no problem clinching Beterbiev and getting off his counters coming out of the clinch against Kovalev. Kovalev's success against Ward was at range with the 1-2 shots. We saw Gvozdyk having similar success but he was broken down eventually with body shots. There's no reason so suggest that Beterbiev wouldn't be even more successful in clinches and in a body attack against Kovalev.
Muslims would have no problem accepting or supporting Beterbiev. Look at the reception Khabib gets globally from Muslims worldwide - from Arabia to Indonesia. They all love the guy.
He was destroying "bums" and people believed he was eventually going to face a decent boxer who could reveal his frailties. He doesn't seem to have weaknesses and his brutal power was able to break down a top 10 pfp fighter in Gvozdyk.
That's just marketing and promotion. HBO put in the dog work when it came to Golovkin. Canelo has zero personality and his fanbase that can be monetised are all Spanish speaking or Mexicans. He has no appeal over here in Europe or Britain.
All about opportunities and circumstances. He had his chance last October and demolished the other guy to become a unified champion.
Anyone who knew a thing or two about amateur boxing was very excited when he turned pro, he was tipped as a legit threat to Kovalev and Stevenson with a handful of pro fights under his belt. There was a lot of hype, It got derailed with his inactivity. (Though those who were stuck in the May Pac universe were unfamiliar with him)
I know, it just don't understand how anyone could say he's number 1 or 2 P4P right now based on achievements. Based on achievements I'm not even sure he's top 20 right now without sitting down and thinking about it.
Canelo has his look and hes from Mexico. He basically has a built in fanbase. Andrew Cancio and JC Ramirez were big ticked sellers before they even got close to a title shot. The Mexican fanbase is amazing that way. Beterbiev doesn´t have that. And he doesn´t have a personality as well. Like I said, Golovkin has his quotes and they built around that persona. I can´t remember anything Beterbiev has really said. The man is just too stoic. But who knows, maybe if he can stay more active, he will catch on. Khabib was immensely popular even before he faced McGregor.
I honestly can't call it. It could go either way and I'm still pissed they robbed Kov against Ward because that fight was very much on the cards back then. I rate that version of Kovalev very highly but likewise I've always rated Beterbiev very highly too. It's a true pick 'em.
Artur actually has a good sense of humour, quite a dry one. I've seen him crack jokes and make people laugh a bunch of times. This content is protected Bit of sarcasm aimed at Timachenko from him here too This content is protected In interviews he's softly spoken, respectful, jovial and humble but he also exude a real menace at the same time.
