So I read somewhere that Canelo’s team has offered Jason Quigley (18-1, 14 ko) a chance to face Canelo. At this point in Canelo's career we would all expect him to face better opponents but it seems as though Covid-19 means that isn’t happening right now.

Quigley won’t be expensive, and frankly presents a very low level of risk, it also keeps Canelo working.

    So my questions are:

    1. In the wake of Covid-19 is it better to fight easy fights for reduced purses with no live gates or take a complete break until some form of fight with an audience in attendance can take place?
    2. What will it do to a fighters legacy, if anything, to look back on the end of their careers and see them fighting opponents who don’t have a chance to beat them? Padding their records to stay busy.
    3. What steps are being taken (that you have read about, not your guesses) to keep the fighters and everyone else COVID-19 free?

I would hate to see any boxer in their prime get Covid-19 fighting some average journeyman to stay busy, and have it derail or even end their prime.

I also know that Canelo’s name usually brings a ton of drama and b.s. to any thread it’s in, however, I would hope those three questions could be the focus. In other words try to keep it civil.

1- Ill copy paste a previous comment of mine here. The reason Canelo team is looking into a fighter of ryder level and reputation is because the fight is expected to undersell due to the pandemic and difficulty in mounting the event. They originally offered the fight to Sanders and derevyanchenko later but both wanted at least 5 mill guaranteed and that was impossible so they started looking for a fighter with a lesser reputation they said on Combate Espn.
2- it wont harm their legacy. with the possibility of a bog fight gone canelo is just looking to get back in the ring, now he is doing the same thing that navarrete and berchelt did, as you say they are staying busy to avoid ring rust.
3- they are taking all the steps possible, to the point that fighters get tested daily for covid and have contact with only their teams and nobody else.

    Covid-19 isn't ending any healthy person's career.

So you think it’s better to stay busy as opposed to say the Bud Crawford theory that he’d rather wait until he can get closer to his full pay?

It’s funny people hating on Canelo for choosing a lesser opponent during this situation, yet ignore the fact that most of your favored fighters fight this level of comp on a regular pandemic or not, remind me who GGG last fought or Saunders or Charlo

Absolutely, is the best way to stay in ring shape and to keep a boxer name relavant and buzzing when discussing possible big fights. Right now Crawford could be scheduled to fight someone like figueroa or lipinets, mismatches basically, to keep his name out there instead of waiting for the big fight to land.

Champions in the past, even the legendary ones like Chavez, actually took on lower level opponents to stay active. Sometimes it was in non-title as well. So there's nothing wrong with it. Boxers need to stay fit and gotta put food on their table too. Especially today during Covid-19, most of people would understand.

There're also special cases like Loma-Lopez. Both want the fight and both have very good reason not to postpone it. Loma is trying to unify and getting older. Lopez want one final big match in lightweight and is getting more difficult for him to stay in the division. If this match does not happen, it'll be one of the most unfortunate 'could have' in boxing history. But if it proceeds, both must receive much less money for the biggest fight in the life.

Yes lightweight and welterweight probably got hurt the most by this outbreak. There are so many skilled young fighters who aren't getting the opportunity to cement their legacy.

If Lopez and Lomachenko are both willing and able and aren't being divas about the money, I think that the best case scenario would be to go ahead and make it happen rather than delay it and then something happens that throws a ****** wrench into the system (like Wilder and Joshua getting stopped before they could fight).

Canelo devalues his own career by fighting someone like Quigley and its a step down from Rocky Fielding.

I suspect that DAZN can veto this. They are paying $33m a fight and no way will they accept this unless they are stupid.

And who is derveyanchenko besides a guy with 14 fights with a loss(now 2) already who is only considered good now because GGG arguably lost to him.

Someone who dominated and stopped Tureano Johnson, who stopped Jason Quigley. Someone who came within a whisker of defeating Jacobs and GGG, two of the very top middleweights at the time. He is one of the very best middleweights today.

Dude Quigley and Johnson are nobodies... So pretty much his claim to fame is losing close fights...and is only considered a top MW not for fights won but for losing close.. yeah... such a great Middleweight.

Just think, the topic was having to do with taking easier fights during the pandemic, and Canelo was seriously considering fighting Quigley, and you suggest, why not? Some fighters make a career of fighting guys like this. Who has Golovkin and others fought recently? My answer is Derevyanchenko. Who is three times the fighter that Quigley and his conqueror Johnson are, and yes, if you go life and death with GGG and Jacobs your a bad mofo. Canelo gets credit for giving GGG tough fights, why shouldn't Derevyanchenko? If you are anything less vs GGG, you will be added decorations to the GGG highlite reel collection.
