Not sure it's just the PC brigade and people who want to be offended who don't like the type who say gays should be killed. Product of his environment or whatever, it's still the statement of an idiot.

He's meant to be some mental health ambassador; how does him saying gays should be shot make a young gay lad think?

You’ll have to ask the man himself, obviously. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I’ve never seen any evidence of fury saying that though?

I'm not sure Ruiz was top ten ranked going into the first fight. I think the WBA and IBF had him ranked in the top 15, but outside the top 10. Unranked by the RING magazine.

@TonyHayers any evidence of fury saying “gays should be shot” or have you completely made it up yourself for some reason? Just had a quick google but can’t find it

Fury has rarely been shy in expressing his backwards beliefs. In a 2013 interview, Fury claimed that he would hang his sister if he deemed her to be promiscuous, and has said he believes that “a woman’s best place is in the kitchen and on her back”.

In the build up to his 2015 fight with Wladimir Klitschko, Fury likened homosexuality to paedophilia and explained that he believes the legalisation of homosexuality and abortion are two of the “three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home”.

These comments derailed his hopes of winning Sports Personality of the Year crown back in 2015 but a year later he told fans: “Everyone just do what you can, listen to the government follow everybody like sheep, be brainwashed by all the Zionist, Jewish people who own all the banks, all the papers all the TV stations. Be brainwashed by them all,” before comparing the existence of transgender people to the practice of bestiality, claiming sexual relations with animals would be legalised within 10 years.

Tony Hayers should maybe swivel his pea head and look at his local mosque, where he will find people with much more extreme views on gays, with the same hypocrites pursuing the grooming and raping of school age girls.

Hayer's is referring to a reply to a comment on David Price's Twitter in 2015. Tyson denied all responsibility, apologised, said he gave his phone to his cousins to deal with haters and the text was not sent by him personally. Make of it what you will.

Indeed. As obvious a pack of lies as it’s possible to imagine.

It actually dates back to 2012

    https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2012/oct/18/tyson-fury-apology-david-price

Fury apologised and distanced himself from the comments. Whether he made the comments, who knows. Let's say he did.
It was 8 years ago. He apologised almost immediately.

How long should that tweet continue to define him as a person ?

For most people, it doesn't define him as a person.
For TonyHayers apparently it does, and probably will do forever.

There are obviously comments that people can make which they come to regret, bad jokes and suchlike. Fury's got the sort of track record which makes me think he actually is like that though. He doesn't say it any more because he's been media managed to stop saying that sort of stuff, but I don't think he came out with all that as a grown adult and didn't mean it.

Make a joke about black people and you'll probably be able to apologise and not see your career wrecked. Say you think all black people should be shot and you're not going to recover. Unless you pretend you're mentally ill I guess.

Well, I think it's likely that he's media managed himself to some extent (and so he should) but that he's genuinely grown and matured and changed his outlook too.
Yes, he was a "grown adult" at 24, but what type of grown adult ? I don't think his life experience went much beyond boxing and the old-fashioned traveller culture, and he'd still say the kinds of things his elders in those circles might say.

You seem to credit him with being able to fool the world into thinking he's a generally decent man while harbouring evil genuinely violent bigoted feelings towards homosexuals.
I tend towards the opinion he's a decent man who's said a lot of wrong stuff but doesn't hate anyone.

Ok Hayers so it was a one off twitter comment ten years ago, probably written by someone else, fair enough if that’s something you want to carry around in your chest for years but as long as you are aware that’s entirely your choice. You are choosing OUTRAGE!! and blaming someone else, who doesn’t know you exist, for how you are feeling. That’s not looking like a productive way to live to me, but as I say, your choice pal.
