You're right - they were all more or less seasoned pros with winning records. So nowhere even close to the worst ever. Surely the absolute worst challenger must be someone, who never won a single fight in his entire career! So the only one mentioned so far who fits the bill, is Arturo Mayan. 4 other challengers finished their career winless: Domingus Siwalette Masaharu Kawakami Joves De La Puz Joko Arter
That's the issue with women's boxing. Hardly any depth in the divisions at all, as you can actually lose your debut in some divisions and end up ranked in the top10 after. The strongest female divisions are even worse as the men's strawweight division. This content is protected
1-0-68... Wow I sometimes wonder what keep men like that going, other than possibly being broke (which I hope was not Clarke s case). Some of them definitely deserve their motivation being admired. Just imagine stepping in the ring 69 times and losing again and again... That 1 win must have felt good though.
Journeyman, maybe two fights every month unless hurt or on medical suspension. $1k-$5k each makes it worthwhile.
Don't remember many more cringeworthy than Mormeck vs Wlad Klitschko. Mormeck didn't land a punch in rounds 1 and 4. Landed 3 out of 19 thrown before being put out of his misery with the KO. His fight strategy seemed to centre around getting his head nestled under Wlad's armpit.
Well, those were in the early 80s when the IBF was just formed. But still, technically those really are the worst.
Jo-Jo and Bizier? They were actually pretty good, but more so on the domestic level. But Brook was an elite welterweight, and it showed. Both guys got their mandatory shots without facing any top contenders. Bizier pulled a nice upset over some guy, but that dude himself had a weak resume as well.
Where would you have ranked either of them in the division world wide? If you're not in the top 15 I don't think you have any real business fighting for a world title.
