I am as big a critic of Whyte as anyone and quiet frankly could give a monkeys if he ever gets a shot due to his shadey incidents throughout his career however, seeing this stat shocked me and got me thinking has another boxer ever had to wait this long as a #1 challenger before they got their shot?
He needs to get his shot at the title he earned. I'm not a fan of just only guys with big fan bases only getting a shot. This is a fighting sport not a popularity contest. I want to see more outrage on this board to the point that The Professor has to put his blow up doll away and semi hard pecker and reign down 2 week bans upon the board like a biblical tale. If Whyte was some former Soviet boxer it would be upheaval on this board that he has not got his chance, remember the whole Canelo, GGG, WBC debacle? Wilder should have fought him a while ago and so should Fury.
You had the Eleider Alvarez case of course, who was the WBC #1 challenger for close to 4 years, and never got his shot (eventually fought Kovalev and won), but that was because of him being in cahoots with Stevenson. Also, Golovkin was the WBC 160 mandatory for 1063 days, before he got his shot at Alvarez.
doesn't seem good enough treatment does it? kali meehan was for a few years but valuev refused to face him. valuev faced john ruiz and others instead, basically the safe way.
This is one of many examples of why the UFC has exploded in popularity with fight fans, and boxing continues to decline. If the promoters and money men cant bang their heads together and put the best in against the best. Then the sport will continue to die. The world boxing super series and boxing super 6 were successful isolated attempts at making the best fights. Lets hope that something happens to wake up these corrupt governing bodies, and compacent promoters from their slumbers. Can we atleast end the pointless proliferating straps and "titles".
The notion of Whyte being this constantly screwed over boxer is total bull****. First he turned down a shot against Joshua in April last year. Secondly he turned down eliminators against Ortiz and Pulev. Let's not even talk about the whole Oscar Rivas fiasco. Dillian should go **** himself. Wilder would have sent him to the shadow realm and so will the Gypsy King if they ever fight.
Screw Alvarez as well. If he wanted a shot against Stevenson, then why did he take so many step aside offers?
That's what I said, he was in cahoots with Stevenson. He got hansomely paid for not fighting Stevenson, and Stevenson never had to fight a mandatory.
