He took a tremendous beating against Fenech. Showed a lot of a heart but had absolutely no answer that night. Outside of that and the Stecca rematch I havent seen heaps of him. Seemed to me to be a bit of a generic Wilfredo Gomez but maybe it was that similar dirty 80's moustache they skewed my view of him. Smooth boxer-puncher with a left hook that kicked like a mule but he didnt seem like 3 mins fighter to me. Read he had out of the ring issues that stalled his career and probably saw him not reach the potential he clearly had.
Watched a bit of the Seung Hoon Lee fight today. I'll watch it properly tomorrow. I remember Lee took quite the licking before getting stopped on his feet against Pintor. Even dropped Lupe.
Loved his performance in a losing effort against Fenech. Vicious as hell. No quit in him. Very heavy puncher. Saw an interview with him a few years back & he looked very fit & healthy. I don't speak Spanish but he appeared to be a rare case of a fighter who reached the top of the sport & who left with his health intact. Good on him.
Brutal puncher. Had Fenech wobbled early on in their fight before getting overwhelmed, and his KO of Loris Stecca is one of the best ever in the division.
Watched the Seung Hoon Lee in its entirety. Had to watch it a couple of rounds at a time (which I hate doing but kept getting interrupted), so I didn't bother scoring it. Wish i had as its always the best way to do it. Was a pretty entertaining fight. Hoon Lee is a beast. I know he gave Pintor a scare and supposedly the Orono fight was controversial. He had Victor backing up for most of the fight and really on his bike towards the end. He caused quite a bit of damage to his face and had him in deep water a couple of times later on. There was a classic round about the 11th or 12th where Lee was swarming all over him threatening to force a stoppage then out of nowhere Callejas damn near decapitated him with a left uppercut that had Lee wobbly. I read two short descriptions of this fight that both describe it as controversial. Maybe I missed an incident, he did go to the canvas a couple of times but they seemed like legit slips and were ruled as such. I felt Victor deserved the nod by a couple of points, he mostly outboxed the Korean with his heavy left hand and fluid defensive moves. Done of a lot of switch hitting in this fight, with mixed success. He did get caught a lot but clearly done more damage. The only thing I do recall is he threw away his mouth guard during the last round because he had trouble keeping it in and the ref let it continue.
