Having a high guard is not the end of defense, Gibbons was amazing defensive fighter. One of the best ever.
This,,,,,,I expect the next thread will be about how Canelo's movement will neutralize Joe Frazier's attack and earn him a unanimous decision .
Do you even read the stuff you write. WTF man. You become obsessed with your favorite of the month and suddenly that fighter is close to invincible. Ridiculous
Gibbons is nowhere near as skilled as Alvarez. All Gibbons did was slide to his left to set up single lead left hooks. Barely jabbed, barely used his right hand and kept a low guard relying completely on reactions to avoid punches. Alvarez is a far better jabber, far better at punches together in combinations, better more varied defence, far better right hand and a more devastating body attack.
I don't know what you watch, but I see different things: This content is protected What Gibbons did against Dempsey is not representive of his whole career
It’s a bit of a fools errand to try and defend Canelo here, but let’s not dismiss this idea that Dempsey destroys him just due to his power and size. I think the reason we should dismiss Canelo’s chances is That he lacks the fluidity and foot speed, as well as top end stamina to actually win. Canelo is skilled, hits hard and has great counter punching ability, but I think he needs that and a whole lot more to beat a prime Dempsey. He might give a good account of himself, but maybe Canelo vs the Dempsey that fought Tunney might be a better and fairer matchup.
You said that Gibbons barely jabbed, I see plenty of jabs thrown. You said that Gibbons didn't use his right, I see that he used it consistently inside. You said that he relied only on reflex, which is not true but even then - you're so high on Roy Jones Jr who is much less technically sound defensive fighter. You said that Canelo has much better body attack, but I don't see it. Gibbons used body punches masterfully. You said that Canelo is much better and more varied defensively, but this is not what I see - Gibbons had phenomenal footwork (far better than Canelo), he used better head movement and he wasn't bad in clinches either. Just admit that you can't leave your agenda when you see B&W footage
