Robinson has not, and will not ever be the GOAT. He's top five, but no more. Armstrong, Langford and Greb are certainly greater.
I said barely jabbed because he mainly leads with his left hook. When he throws a jab he throws a single jab. He never doubles or trebbles his jab. He can't hook off his jab What defensive technique does he use other than reflexes? He has a low hands, it's solely reflex/head movement/footwork. As for his right hand. Yes he uses it inside, it's the fact he can't throw a basic 1-2 from outside or lead with the right As for great footwork, where? He keeps range and slips to the left to get his left hand off. For my money Gibbons is a limited boxer who mainly used his left hand and it's clear Greb and Tunney got the better of him because they were more versatile boxers.
Y'know Armstrong wasn't even remotely close to something that resembled his prime? I'm sure you do, but it wouldn't surprise me if you didn't.
I would add Ezzard Charles to the short list of those who would be considered as greater than Robinson. Incidentally I have never, until now heard Robinson put down from his typical position with such conviction. Interesting.
I have Robinson at five. Below Charles, who's at four. I have always found Robinson overrated, from both a greatness and H2H standpoint, but when I tell people that they tend to take it into its illogical conclusion that I don't rate him at all.
Having Robinson at 5 is unusual but I am personally comfortable with it, not that it matters, considering the illustrious names you have above him. I have Robinson as the greatest but that is usually from lack of knowledge about the others you previously name. I am extremely comfortable with him H2H against others at 147 and perhaps at 160 as well. If you consider him overrated, in the context of where you actually rate him, then I am not sure you consider him overrated in the normal sense. Example: Roy Jones is the GOAT.
I don't think he's overrated in that he's rated too high. I think he's overrated in that people act like there's no opposition to him at the top stop. If he's up at #1, it's by the slimmest of margins. And I agree he's the best ever at 147, but I don't think he's the best fighter ever, and he's certainly not the best ever by a long distance.
