This question is mostly for the guys who were already big classic boxing fans pre-2005.

It's interesting looking at old threads and realizing how many fights still weren't widely accessible even in the late 2000s. With the explosion of fight footage on YouTube over the past decade, has seeing more footage of certain fighters and actually watching fights you'd only read about or maybe watched live decades ago ever changed any of your views?

    Monzon I found surprisingly underwhelming.

I did not expect before watching Armstrong that I would favor him over modern fighters.

Marciano I initially found overrated, but after watching all his fight footage I was awed by his stamina.

Prime Ali was faster than I expected despite the stories I had heard.

Benny Leonard better than I thought he would be and way ahead of his time.

Joe Louis having 25 title defenses with a B- chin was surprising.

Liston's Ali fights have badly denigrated a great fighter's career stature.

Ali in the 70's had several questionable decisions.

James Corbett was a milquetoast who wore thong trunks.
Jim Jeffries was a muscle bound oaf.
    Jack Dempsey was a killer.
Ray Robinson was a floating dream in the ring.
Marciano's strength and endurance was astonishing.
Liston looked easy to hit but you damn sure didn't want him to hit you.

Are these different than the views you had prior to watching their fights on YouTube?

    Yes and no.

I mean, YouTube has completely revolutionized my boxing viewing making so much available to me that I could have only dreamed about even 15 years ago to the point that it is sometimes overwhelming how much there is available to see.

On the other hand, I had seen a reasonable amount of footage of the old timers back in the 90s on tape so I'd already had that culture shock of seeing fighters like Stanley Ketchel on tape and thinking 'wait...that's the great Stanley Ketchel?!'

A bit. Jeffries back in the day as an unstoppable force. Then you see him stumble around and read about how he got slashed and burned by Fitzsimmons and choynski and you have to consider him a D class boxer.

Corbett...I just can't get past those thong trunks.

Dempsey looks better and better and so does Marciano with new videos examining their styles.

And you learn something new every time you watch a Robinson film.

My view of Dempsey has gone up - I always had access to his fights but the improvement in clarity has made a difference.

my opinion of Wills has diminished. Until YouTube I had never seen him fight - I know he was pass his best but the footage is underwhelming of him.

Not impressed with many pre Dempsey guys - Langford looks good definitely an explosive and aggressive fighter.

Corbett, ketches, *******, Jeanette they all underwhelm a little bit - I see some good things they were doing but as a whole body of ability they have many flaws

I got more impressed of Schmeling after watching his fights. Before that I only read about him as a Nazi fighter who lost in one round to Joe Louis.

Actually, a lot of the members of "bum of the month" were much better than people give them credit for. Someone like Bob Pastor or Lou Nova could be a champion without Joe Louis.

The bum of the month moniker wasn't even in reference to the quality of fighters. It was in reference to the manor of how Louis dealt with them and the frequency he made his title defences. For example, should someone ask who Louis fought the night before, the reply would be something like: "who cares, just the bum of the month!". Ali would have been one should Louis have beaten him.

Yet even here some people use this name to downgrade Louis competition. It's a shame that we don't have a lot of fights from that era
