Well, the Sconiers KD of Wilder has been erased from the internet, and some say even from memory ... hang on there's somebody at the door ...
Given PBC only uploaded 2 minutes of Fury whooping Wilder around the ring whilst UK outlets gave full highlights and fight replays... says it all.
That's very interesting. Now reading this makes me want to see it. Was it filmed then the footage destroyed or was it never filmed to begin with? And more important, what actually happened? Did Larry Sims have some early success against Tyson before being stopped? Did Tyson and Cus get into an argument between rounds. What happened? Boxrec says that Joe Cortez was the referee. Can someone ask Cortez about what happened?
Good example to go along with the more well-known (like Wilder vs. Sconiers) ones: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...cierva-full-fight.360791/page-5#post-11331916
Right, that's what I thought, but the post said "where the young fighter's emotions / feelings overwhelmed the aggressive D'Amato overlay for a few rounds" That made it sound like Cus was there and verbally scolding Tyson in the corner or something.
You know...he's alive. We could just ask. I doubt he gives a **** at this point about saying "yeah I looked so-so in my sixth pro bout ". He did alright since.
Yeah I thought about that but I doubt Tyson would remember it in any detail or say anything about it especially if it had anything to do with any argument with Cus. That's why I checked boxrec and saw that Cortez was the ref who is also still alive and may remember more details about it.
Well said. And wasn´t Sweet uploading mainly really old fights now? I just noticed they had been taken down. I wonder who went after them.
Ah man I wished I had saved it somehow. I was able to watch it a few years back but sucks you can't see it anymore...
I wonder why almost every Canelo fight is easy to find from when he's a kid, except for both of his matches against Miguel Vazquez? Strange, you'd think 2 matches against a future champ would be up there. Hmmm. That's a real head scratcher why they aren't.
You might be on to something here. Lets try to track down the footage, then we can score it round by round. The first match was a split decision!! It was Vazquez's debut. Must have been a 4-round war. According to boxrec, the scores were 40-37, 37-39, 39-37. Then that summer he went over to Tijuana and fought Jorge Juarez. This time it was a split draw 37-39, 39-37, 38-38!! Man it seems like judging controversies were nothing new to Canelo. Even in his early days he had 2 very close decisions. And Jorge Juarez ended up with a career record of 8-27-3, but is an absolute legend for getting a draw vs the great Canelo Alvarez. At least Vazquez went on to have a pretty solid career. Who could forget his massive upset of Breidis Prescott after Prescott knocked out Amir Khan. But yes we need to track down this footage. A definite head-scratcher. I for one want to score these matches myself and see if the judges got them right.
@CST80 Do you think Canelo may have been robbed vs Jorge Juarez? While we don't have the footage, I find it hard to believe that Canelo wouldn't have beaten a fighter that ended his career 8-27-3. Even though it was only 4 rounds, this looks like it could have been a case of a hometown decision. Canelo was a 15 year old kid when he fought Juarez, who was from Tijuana. It was Canelo's first match outside of his hometown of Guadalajara. So Canelo was the road fighter, fighting in Juarez's backyard. Juarez was a grown man in his mid 20s taking on a 15 year old kid Canelo in his hometown. This has all the ingredients of a hometown decision don't you think? A grown man getting a draw in his hometown vs a young out-of-town kid who nobody knew anything about at the time. How can we track down this footage CST? We really need to review this draw against Juarez as well as the Vazquez bouts and see if we agree with the scoring.
