Well, one of two FORMER middleweights (Toney hadn't been a middleweight in 13 years) to outpoint John Ruiz. (LOL)

And both of them were likely on PEDs. (Toney got caught, Jones didn't, but Roy showed all the symptoms of a guy coming off them in his next fight.)

It's funny how people have never dragged Toney too much for failing multiple tests.

Toney, Botha and Browne were all stripped of their heavyweight belts for failing their postfight drug tests. Not exactly stellar company.

Toney more talented, Chavez more dedicated. It's the ant or the grasshopper, and the ant wins it.

James Toney is better, JCC is greater.
I think JCC is much greater than Toney while Toney isn't that much better than JCC.

    Overall JCC

    Exposed my arse.

Are you really going to argue it was a close to peak version of Chavez? The guys peak weight was probably 135, some might argue 130. The guys fought all the way up at Welterweight and Chavez only mustered up 142 pounds. He was heading towards a decade and a half and 87 fights deep when he fought Whitaker. Whitaker was also well up from his best weight but he was far far fresher.

Chavez was on the way down as early as Taylor whom which he was lucky to get by and 140 and above didn't exactly help him. Chavez did not get much of anything done post Whitaker comparative to what he had been.

Besides all this Whitaker would likely beat him at 135 tho it's not a lay down misere. Whitaker is considered by quite a few to be the greatest H2H lightweight in history and invariably sits extremely high on most anyone's list that know anything about boxing.

Losing to Whitaker at this weight and career stage is hardly called getting "exposed". One doesn't get exposed with the boxing achievements Chavez had built up behind him.

    Context is everything.

Calling a loss to Whitaker as exposed is ridiculous when you consider how proven Chavez was against all manner of styles. But I'm not sure nearly losing to Taylor proves Chavez was significantly past prime. Taylor had top tier ability albeit with amateur tendencies. I do think Chavez was picking up a great win after that against Camacho.

I didn't say Chavez was significantly past prime. I said he was on the way down against Taylor and most anyone would agree his absolute best was behind him at this point which equals him being on the way down.

Lets call it a combination of his prime tailing and being high enough up in the weights to start losing the some of the effectiveness he had at lower weights.

How does that sound? 140 was definitely not his best division. He lost some advantages there. Agree Taylor had a lot of ability for sure.

Camacho in 92 was a good win but certainly not a great one. He was 6 years past his true peak.
