If Lopez turns the fight down, it's a duck. That's what we're all saying.

If he negotiates better terms, good for him. But if it's a deal breaker, it's a duck.

    THIS.

As I said in another thread...

I’ve always been of the opinion that the fighter and only the fighter should set the pay rate they find acceptable to be punched in the head, mouth and body. However I also believe that changes when you call someone out repeatedly.

Lopez knocked out Commey and was riding high, life was good. Now he’s come down and most likely wants no part of Loma. Gonna pull a page from the Canelo playbook and wait a few more years and see what happens. Maybe Loma gets beat, maybe he begins to slow down and if Lopez is still relevant he can take his chances then. Thoughts?

Only thing I disagree with is the fighter setting the pay they want. A fighters pay can be determined by, and raised (In the event of a signing battle), based on the agreement they can secure w/ a promoter, but ultimately, the fans that make a fighter popular. Not too many casuals know who Loma is, but even less know about Teo. A 23yo w/ one win shyuold be happy to make a million for a purse. MOST guys who have accomplished more don't even get to make that type of money at such a young age.

He wants the fight. The money is to be negotiated. Both guys need to be paid. It might be best to delay until they are allowed to fill an arena to maximize financials plus PPV.

If he wants the fight he'll take it. Actions speak louder than words.

Delaying a fight has never proved to be the right move. Someone loses, someone changes weight, someone gets injured etc.

The time to make the fight is now. Both are available.

If Lopez wants to fight a lesser opponent, for lesser money, he's clearly ducking. The group of posters who used to support Floyd have all been saying the same.

It's disappointing. Veteran guys more established than Lopez, got less to fight Loma. This was a fight we've all been looking forward to. Anybody know if Arum is taking a huge Pacquiao type percentage of Lopez' purses? If the purse is really only 800K after Arum gets his cut, I'd decline as well.

Pay the man and make the fight. $1.2M compared to $3.75M common its not asking much

He’s not asking for 1.2m, that’s what he’s been offered.

I have no problem with Lopez trying to squeeze more - only a fool wouldn’t negotiate, but if the fight doesn’t happen it’s a duck plain and simple.

If he wants a bigger paycheck put the fight on pay per view slash the price and give the winner 65% of half of that revenue.

That he's been shittalking Arum saying that it's not his fault that covid has removed live gates for the foreseeable suggests to me that he won't take this fight. I hope I'm wrong and it gets made.

I'm not saying he is right but I understand.

He has to be thinking.. after this Loma fight there isn't much else out there right away if he loses, he will be back of the queue, without a belt, without leverage and if there is more pandemic lockdowns he might not fight for long time and with no gates he won't be getting paid well for a while and certainly won't get paid well without a belt.

So he is trying to make the biggest fight of his career the most profitable and I don't blame him.

The $1.2 mill he is guaranteed will be taxed, so let's say after tax he has $600k, the manager probably gets a minimum of 10% of the gross, so does the promoter so that's $240k... so he now has $360k

So after training expenses, hotels, everything else he is probably looking at clearing around $275k.

$275k for one of the biggest fights in boxing right now, for all the marbles, Loma wants undisputed, he was reportedly being paid $3.5 milllion so I can see why Lopez is asking for more.

If Loma wants that belt, then he should pay and pay well.
