Yes. That Foreman was 42 years old. He lost again to Morrison, Briggs, and was in fact lucky to defeat Alex Shchulz. I'm not even sure if he edged Savarese. The Ruiz that fought Holfyield was in his prime. IMO that version of Ruiz was better than the 42-44 year old Foreman. Ruiz beat Holfyield, Johnson, Golota, Tucker and Rhaman which to me is better the 1990's Foreman wins by a good margin. Foreman is known for a down on points come from behind KO over Moorer, who also beat Holfyield. As for Douglas he came in fat and under motivated. He didn't try hard to get up , he laid down. This wasn't the Tokyo Douglas. Feel free to vote if you haven't done so already.
Upon further review, Holyfield fought much of the top talent. He won some and lost some, but his wins do stand out. Nine people voted for 11 different fighters. Holyfield's top five wins 1. Bowe 43 points 2. Tyson 36 points 3. Moorer 14 points 4. Foreman ( 90's version ) 13 points 5. Holmes ( 90's version ) 11 points
I agree Foreman won it on my card, but officially Briggs won it on the judges cards. I think Savereese edged Foreman, but it been a while since I've seen that one. Foreman landed 296 of 540 punches. Savarese landed 336 of 870. Unofficial HBO Judge: Harold Lederman 113-114 for Saveresse Unofficial AP Scorecard: 112-115 for Saveresse On his ledger Its better that Foreman lost to Briggs than Savarese.
Good point. I forget he was next. Officially Big's daddy's top 5 wins are on the clock. Bowe's top 5 wins 1 ) Holyfield _ A dominating won over another ATG in his prime. 2 ) Tubbs - Bowe edged the crafty Tubes 3. Hide - Power and speed Hide had. Not durable enough to take Bowe's punches 4. Donald - Donald ran, but did not win many rounds 5. Seldon - at 18-1 Seldon still had respect, losing a very good fight to McAll, whom he stunned. ** While I do think Goltoa was better than Seldon, how Bowe won the match prevents me from listing it as a top 5 win, as Bowe was behind until Golota DQ's himself with low blows.
Yeah I can't choose Golota as a top 5 win due to the circumstances. Bowe 1. Holyfield 2. Tubbs 3, Hide 4. Donald 5. Seldon I am seconding your list. Bowe has a terrible top 5 outside of Holyfield. Where are the punchers? No Mercer, no Morrison, no Ruddock, no Bruno, obviously no Lewis since his team ducked that one. He also missed out on McCall, Moorer, Tucker, older Witherspoon. What a talented but badly mismanaged fighter. He had it all, size, power, his infighting skills were the best I have ever seen in a big man. And yet he was badly managed. I cannot believe how many top fighters he missed out on. Even a win over the aging Witherspoon would have enhanced Bowe's resume. What a pity.
Bowe 1----Holyfield 2----Tubbs 3----Hide 4----Donald 5----Seldon Thin after Holyfield. I can't see putting those bashings by Golata on this list as victories.
If you do remove Bowe's fights with Golota his resume is awfully shallow. A case could be made that Douglas has a better a resume. Meanwhile they are considered miles apart on All time rankings. Bowe sure gets a lot mileage out of "looking good"
Sure But on the other hand, Douglas lost a bunch of times pre Tyson and Bowe didn't. Bowe also did not get knocked out.
