So who would have won this crossroads fight in `87?

    Benn would've hurt Tony.

Considering sibo had been stopped by Andries trying to win a world title at light heavy in his previous fight to beating Anderson . Sibo hadn't exactly set the World ablaze in his comeback fights before fighting Andries and after losing he didn't fight Anderson until a whole year later . For your timeline of a 87 then we are having to go with a fight date of around Dec 20th to give sibo time to prepare after the Anderson . Sibo's performance was ok but wasn't obviously a fighter in his prime at all but it was as I stated ok I can say that as I saw the fight in person . It's actually not as straight forward as it seems . for the benn of that time would be in danger blowing up like he did against Watson if an old sibo could get past the first 4 rounds . I was always a big benn fan so I'm going to be predictable and go for benn to actually catch sibo and win by stoppage

I was amazed what Benn was able to do with crafty Eddie Smith in one of his very early fights, Eddie'd only ever been stopped on his feet or taken a knee and really beat Sibbo twice back in the day. He was in the WBC top-five five years before with no title and no manager!

And step up and take out a rated prospect in expensive import Reggie Miller.

Benn is going to nail Sibson at some point, though Tony has good power himself I think Nigel will deliver it in a better fashion until a stoppage occurs.

At this stage you’d have to favour Benn to stop Sibbo.
Prime for prime I wouldn’t be so sure.

Sibson stops Benn in late 1987.

Benn was very raw....a fast powerful slugger with none of the impressive bob & weave defence, stamina or lateral movement he developed in Miami after his 1st defeat.

Yes Sibson was pretty much worn out and fighting for one last payday at this stage...the last time we had seen a prime Sibbo was 1984 he'd had 60 pro fights by than... thats a hell of a lot for a pressure fighter ....but this Sibson still had too much boxing ability, power and durability for that Benn imo.

It may or may not be relavent but Im suprised no one has mentioned that Tony Sibson gave a pretty good working over to Nigel in sparring in i beleive summer 1987....the magnanimous Nigel himself would joke about it whenever he bumped into Tony "thats the guy who gave me a hiding".......id favour 1990 Benn over 1987 Sibson but not the 1987 Benn

Calling BS on that sparring, Brian Lynch didn't have Benn doing ANY sparring.

And I can't see Sibson living with an 87 Benn if they did spar. A 1990 Benn maybe, he wasn't as devastatingly fast and crisp as he had been under Lynch.

He certainly wasn't top 5 when Benn fought him. He'd lost 2 of his last three and the win came against a guy sporting 51 losses. Despite the losses i bet he was a real talent.

Miller lost 5 fights out of 7 and then beat 3 guys with a losing record (two of whom had a 2 fight career at that point) and a debutante. Breland at the 13 fight mark knocked out Miller far faster than Benn did a year prior.

    Rated hey.
