Froch has a better chin than Barkley prime for prime??? What punchers did Froch fight compared to Barkley. Come on man.
Sorry Bob, can't see Barkley being the tougher guy here. He was dropped by Duran, stopped by Sims, beat in one by Benn, dropped by Olijade and hurt by Scypion. Groves was a better puncher than most of the above, certainly better than Sims. IMO, too much gets made of the Taylor KD, it's a non-issue, since he didn't really hurt Froch. Froch wasn't hurt once he got back up. Froch did fight a whole heap of Punchers too. Pascal, Bute, Groves, Kessler and Abraham to name the best of them.
You can't compare these run of the mill kids like Pascal, Dirrell and George Groves to the greatest to ever do it like Toney, Duran, Hearns and a truly great puncher like Benn. It's crazy talk. They couldn't hurt a fly! Barkley fought nothing but punchers in the amateurs, Gleasons and coming through and always finished strongest
We are talking about a guy who was stopped in one in a title fight. And someone who dropped by a lightweight. And brutally stopped by Robbie Sims. If Froch was from the 90s, no-one here would question who's chin was better.
In all-time great wars. Benn was one of the biggest punchers and fastest starters we've seen. Froch in the 90s wouldn't be near the top 20. In the 80s he'd be Central Area Light Heavyweight Champion - no way is he out-lasting Dennis Andries. He's a wonderful lovely man but nowhere near that kettle of fish. You'd need to be deranged or something, blind.
Brits are dangerously deluded regarding Froch. He's so lovely etc but never won a MINUTE against Ward until the last round when Ward gave it away.
Not one MINUTE. I thought the average Dirrell won nine rounds quite clearly, and he didn't even have the basic fundamentals down.
I personally dont rate any of Froches opponents punchers. Dirrell of all people beat him and got robbed. Ward toyed with him and when both were at there best Kessler was the better man Barkley got so jobbed against Benn Benn fouled the hell out of him. That fight would have gone on to be and epic war if it wasnt for Padilla. Please tell me how many of the above losses were in Barkley's prime because again this is prime for prime!. So you don't think the Duran of the Barkley fight beats Froch?? I personally think he beats the hell out of him. Prime Barkley was far from perfect but he was a big strong hard punching animal the kinda guy Froch never had to deal with. Unless Froch could keep him off which he couldnt is his only chance. Barkley whips his ###. Too many guys on the other side of the pond tend to rate there fighters a bit too high at times Benn Eubank Collins all beat the overrated Froch
Froch was never involved in anything closely resembling the wars that Barkley fought in the ring, or Hagler, Hearns, Eubank, Watson, Benn and McClellan. His time was a cake walk compared to the 8oz gloves of yesteryear when going to the scorecards was considered a loss or not holding your feet could lose you managers/promoters/TV/fights/careers
He was never a beast. He got a gift vs Tinley. I thought Sanderline beat him but I didnt have a problem with the decision but it was razor close. Neither one of those two hit as hard as Froch or was as skilled as Froch and Irans "fierce" hooks did nothing to either one. Amparo was catching Iran allnight with his righthand and Barkley had no answer. I'll tell you a story. Iran at one point was signed by HBA promotions. He was getting hit so much in the gym and in his fights they LET HIM Go. Hearns was shot to bits in the second fight and Iran managed a split decision. Toney beat the Jesus out of him. Benn flattened him in ONE ROUND. Who did Duran beat after Barkley? NOBODY. Froch beat an unbeaten Pascal,Bute,Dirrell,Groves,Taylor,Kessler,Johnson and abraham. Who did Barkley beat besides Hearns?? Van Horn?
As much as I’d hate to admit this I’d have to go with Froch. He was better technically and an all around better athlete. Too bad he’s a self centered narcissistic douche... and the Blade is a great guy!!
Yes, I'm puzzled what makes some prop up Barkley so much. He lost every time he stepped up except against Hearns, who was shaky against anyone with size and punch above WW.
Hey you know what? I was a HUGE Hearns fan. Thought Barkley didn't stand a chance.....proved me and the WORLD wrong. One of the greatest upsets in boxing and it showed that if you have the grit and heart to believe in yourself when almost everybody didn't YOU can make it happen. Barkley stood in there and took punches that night that most boxers would have quit. He threw the punch and it knocked out Hearns- Iran deserves all the glory for that. But lets not make him out to be a sudden giant killer when he wasn't. For one night he stood the boxing world on its head and that is a tremendous accomplishment that can never be taken away from him.
