I think that left hook he knocked Louis out of the ring with may have sparked Patterson. If you don't think Patterson could beat Lennox Lewis, you shouldn't think he could beat Buddy Baer because Lewis and Baer was the same size.

But Marshall Dillon beat up Buddy in an episode of Gunsmoke, all kidding aside, Floyd would have a size disadvantage like he did with Sonny Liston and Muhammad Ali. Patterson had speed and quickness, especially that left hook that flattened Ingemar Johannson in June 1960. But given Buddy Baer's size, he might be able to withstand that left hook by Floyd. And he might have more leverage to his blows than George Chuvalo and Oscar Bonavena did in their bouts with Patterson. Baer stops Floyd in round 8, as Floyd realizes that he cannot make dent on Buddy.

Patterson's was small and didn't have the greatest set of whiskers. I think Baer takes advantage of that and stops him early.

Marshall Dillon was a badass. No shame there. Plus he had a big hometown edge in Dodge City.

Baer was a big man who could punch.

You have to give Buddy Baer a shot at just about anybody. Any man who can hit like that can put someone to sleep on any given night. At one point he had the most first round KO’s second only to Jack Dempsey. Since that time both of those records have been surpassed, but Max’s little brother was still a force to be reckoned with. Floyd Patterson was one of my favorite fighters. A small man taking on bigger men and possessing speed, wit, power and the heart to rise off the canvas to win a match. Could he overcome a hard punching tank like Baer who dwarfed him in size and hit harder than Ingo Johannson ( and possibly Sonny Liston ? ) It would certainly be one of the tallest orders of his career...

Baer was a super HW and he could bang. But he was really slow and pondorous. He also didn't seem to manage to fight back when his opponent opens up on him. So I think Patterson should win but Baer has a punchers chance as always

Floyd should outbox him, but he didn't have the experience of fighting such a big fighters. Buddy would be a very live underdog!

Richard lol, you kinda beat me to it here with reference to that episode of Gunsmoke...I was watching it largely due to my fascination with the size of Buddy Baer. Musing over the heights of some of these tv western greats of the 50's and 60's, it seems that 2 favorites of mine (I like em all btw) Chuck Connors was a towering 6'-6"...and seemed to tower over everyone back then, but James Arness...Marshal Matt Dillon himself,...was an inch taller than Chuck at 6'-7", but you never saw these two together in any show (must have been in Chuck Connor's contract, lol)....and lo and behold, I'm watching this episode with Buddy Baer, and I'll be horn swaggled (whatever that means)...but Buddy actually is taller than Marshal Matt!!! He was a BIG, as in wide galoot as well...I mean, he looked enormous compared to Arness, and certainly everyone else. So the question is...just how tall was Buddy Baer anyway?

They were on an episode of Gunsmoke from probably 1957, anyway Chuck played a boxer who bullied this man, played by Royal Dano. Marshall Dillon fights Chuck, good tough fight but Marshall Dillon knocks out Chuck. You can find it on You Tube. I think that Buddy had to be near 6"8, but he was wide, had a deep voice.

Patterson was obviously much better, but I think Baer has a real chance. Maybe Buddy would have his number.

Interesting match up. Not sure who I'd favour.

If Buddy won that would prove to his naysayers that he's more than a bumbling oaf.
