Fully expect this thread to die a quick death, i get slaughtered and i also realise it has no actual bearing on the fighters or fights made in the division but am i the only one who gets frustrated when i hear the 154lb division called Super-Welter instead of Light-Middleweight ? I know that it was called super-welter for ages in the US but it just irks me as more americanism creeping in to UK culture/sport.
It's one of them, there are super weight categories across the board pretty much. You don't say Light Lightweight but you also have both super middle and light heavy
The class superwelter and lightmiddle are set by the board. And although you did here the different names for the 154lb weight class over in the states before we determined it over here, it's the bbbc who have renamed the 154s as superwelters, that's why you are hearing it a lot more on these shores
On another note, what's with all the green gloves entering the sport ? I think we need a thread (or a separate forum) to discuss this vexing issue.
There is only one acceptable colour of glove and that is Red. Except if your a world champion then you earn the right to pick from Red, Blue, White and Gold only. That should be the rule.
We should definitely just turn this into the a thread for all the minor things that annoy us about boxing.
The US calls it Super Welter or Junior Middle, depending on what title is on the line. The UK (BBB of C) calls it Light Middle.
Light middle for me ....At a stretch junior middle....Super Welter -no thanks On a side note ,as a kid i thought all divisions went up in half stones !!
I call it light middle which makes sense as a lot of the best at light middle step up to middle and super middle.
