Saw this thread on another forum.

Both Floyd and Calzaghe retired undefeated, but who is the better/greater fighter?

Floyd without a doubt, this should be quite obvious.

this is only a serious question if you're british and lack objectivity.

calzaghe's best win against a fighter in their prime was mikkel Kessler, and couldn't even unify when ottke lived about an hour away by plane (someone who also retired 'undefeated' and also fought at SMW, which should tell you plenty about their intent).

now go look at floyd's resume and look at all those fighters of kessler level or above...

    ridiculous thread TBH

It's easily Floyd. I hate the guy, but he's clearly got more good wins than Slappy. If Hopkins was closer to his prime, Calazaghe would have a better case (though, I felt Hopkins deserved that decision).

Based on resume, easily Floyd Mayweather. Based on in ring style, easily Joe Calzaghe. And if they were the same size, Calzaghe would dominate Mayweather from bell to bell.

    Oh come on, sick joke.

Calzaghe is my profile photo and I wouldn't dream of this comparison. Easily Floyd Mayweather

Ottke and Calzaghe just never sits well with me when rating either guy as the best SMW of all-time. It’s blasphemous that 2 guys fighting at the same time in the same division both have the record for most consecutive title defense in that division an didn’t fight each other at all. RJJ and Michalczewski was another case but at least RJJ had elite wins over Toney and Hopkins before reaching LHW..

Calzaghe was damn good, but you are underestimating Floyd here.
No way anyone just dominates him. Dude was and is too smart for that to happen.

    spot on.
there's a strong correlation between european fighters crossing the pond and getting big fights.
while jones and hopkins were kings - calzaghe, ottke, michaelewski, sturm, steiglitz, abraham at MW.

there's good $$$ in getting 'a belt' and milking it against subpar opposition.
frank warren was notorious for it, as well as the germans.

    you can't be serious.
the best fighter calzaghe fought who was in their prime was mikkel kessler, and you think he'd dominate the best fighter since roy jones?

that's like saying felix sturm is one of the greatest MW's of all time because he was a 4 (5?) time 'world champion'. even though he never fought a top MW in his life.

remember, joe stayed well away from stateside when hopkins and jones were in their prime.
if you want to give him comparisons to floyd, then he needed to make these fights when they actually mattered.

I like Calzaghe but it’s not even close Floyd by a mile.
