Very so so after a big first name.

 

If we think Moorer is bad wait til we get to next guy lol maybe the worst lineal champ I mean come on champ!

 

His 4th and 5th wouldn't make the cut on most lists at all, even pre-1970. He had very thin top names (outside of great Holyfield win) and no depth at all!

 

Yeah, Briggs' resume is much worse. But he shouldn't have been a lineal champion since he lost to 49 y.o. Foreman. Moorer was legitimate lineal champ

 

If this is a list of best wins, I don't understand why you can only put an opponents' name once, especially if they beat them several times.

Bowe's win over Holyfield in fight two and his win over him in fight three were two separate fights, two separate performances, two separate wins in different years even.

Same with Tunney over Dempsey twice, Foreman over Frazier twice, Walcott over Charles twice, Spinks over Holmes twice, etc.

Seems to favor those who only fought opponents once.

 

Briggs had lot of money behind him. He was being pushed to be a star. I attended a book signing and he showed up and Madonna was with him introducing ppl to him. On top of that Larry Hazard supposedly wanted Foreman to lose the title. You’re right Briggs should never have been lineal champ and his resume is so bad for a “champ”

 

I’ll have to rewatch foreman Savarese - but Foreman imo clearly lost to Schulz.

 

Michael Moorer’s 5 best wins

1 Holyfield - Great win
2 Schulz - Solid heavyweight. With a couple decisions going his way(like many believe they should) he’d be viewed as a better heavyweight than he currently is
3 Botha - Decent heavyweight with a nice record at the time
4 Jirov - Top cruiserweight but did little at heavyweight
5 Smith - Way past his best

Cooper and maybe Bean could possibly crack the top 5 without much of an issue. Nothing really to brag about after the Holyfield win.

I accept your genreal premise but Old Wlad and Wilder still top Schulz, and Chisora, Cunningham cement a fairly decent, not spectacular, Fury resumee. Joshua's is even more solid but Wilder's is crap. Povetkin is not too bad either but compared to say, the last champions we did, they have a lot left to do. But, you know, even if they all fought the best around, it wouldn't help much, if AJ and Fury get to fight, they will have missed nobody. Bring on Usyk, hope he can handle his new division.

 

I agree. Even though Moorer’s resume isn’t the greatest, at least among lineal champions, it would be among the top in today’s division.
