Sanchez went young ( age 23 ) and had so much more to give. You hate it when that happens.

The car accident was so bad, he was identified not by his face, but by the jewelry he was wearing.

I am not sure about that. He started young and had already been through a number of wars. I think (he was great) we probably saw the best of him, and that he would gradually decline before either retiring or coming out on the wrong end of a war in time. Could be wrong? Either way he is one of my favorites and some of his fights: Lopez I & II, Nelson & Gomez all crack a top 100 fights of all time for me.

Yeah, Sanchez was awesome and even if he only had a few years left (the thought process I subscribe to) there was some awesome fights on the horizon. Pedroza, Laporte 2 (for some reason lol), and obviously, Arguello. I think he'd have lost to both Arguello and Pedroza, but they'd have been good fights and I'm sure he coulda proved me wrong.

His fights with Lopez are absolute clinics, the Gomez fight is a great spectacle and the Nelson fight is an awesome war.

I always thought that Pedroza would be a fun even match (I might edge Sal if it happened in the next fight or 2), I thought Arguello would be to much for Sal even at his best. And then we have the possibility of 84 rolling around only to face off against JCC in my alternate reality lol.

    Greatest mexican fighter ever!
Sanchez,Monzon and Locche are the best from south America!
I rated Sanchez over Duran or Chavez because his legacy and what he did at just 23 years old!

I recall an interview with RJJ where he rated the best p4p fighters in his opinion as SRR number 1 and Sanchez as number 2. Pretty damn high praise. A fantastic fighter.
