It’s their chosen profession. They know the risk. Huge financial rewards. They ‘risk their lives’ twice a year. Many people go to work risking their lives on a daily basis and get paid no where near as much. I understand where your coming from wanting a high quality uninterrupted viewing though because I have bought PPV’s for the same reason in the past. It’s your money at the end of the day. If your going to enjoy it why not. Me and Eddie Hearn have very different figures on what constitutes a good payday for a fighter not even with a world title. Millions of pounds isn’t it. I’m not hating on Whyte I like him. But the reasoning for putting fights like this on PPV is just a joke. Hearn tells us the money needs to come from somewhere. They could both be paid well without putting this on PPV. What he means is me and my fighter thinks he deserves millions so we are going to ask you to pay for it. And I refuse to because it’s not worth 20 quid.

Playing Devils Advocate for one moment.

Has nobody considered that the PPV might go towards paying the fighters from all 4 Fight Camps?

I hardly think that the fighters from Camps 1-3 will be doing it purely for the love of boxing and they, too, will need paying.

Regards whether to pay or to not pay, I can see quite clearly both sides of the argument on this thread.

End of the day, it is purely down to the individual if they can
    a) afford it
    b) feel it is value for their £20.

Those that prefer Option C will swerve it.

Myself? I haven't bought it but then again, if I've nothing better to do that evening, then my opinion might well change.

    4 fights for 20 quid ?

Surely if you were a Sky Sports subscriber you would expect a better discount on the fight if they are doing it PPV, if i was paying for Sky Sports id be pretty pissed off with having to fork out an additonal 20 quid when i am already paying for the channels.

I was thinking that. This idea that streams *NOT THAT I USE THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE ILLEGAL AND BAD* are these scrappy things from 2002 is silly. Especially with products like IPTV etc available, *WHICH I WOULD NEVER USE BECAUSE THEY ARE ILLEGAL AND WOULD DEPRIVE GOOD FOLK LIKE EDDIE HEARN OF WELL DESERVED MONEY*

Couldn't have put it better myself mate.

Plus the fact that both fighters and Hearn are already multi millionaires. Just how much filthy lucre do they want?

True, but those people have their chosen profession as well, and ultimately it's a profession loads of people could do.

So when you get to a certain level what should you do? Just work for free? JK Rowling writes a new novel - costs twenty quid when it comes out in hardback. She's a millionaire - shouldn't it really just be a fiver? Or given away for nothing?

Why should footballers who have earned a lot get paid? Can't they just play for nothing? I don't get paid for messing up Stairway to Heaven on a battered old guitar sat in my living room - why is Ed Sheeran making people pay eighty quid to see him play a football stadium? He's loaded!

Sky are still paying a rights fee for each of the fight nights and sponsors are still paying for exposure.

Although Matchroom are likely taking a big hit Sky wouldn’t go ahead with a PPV if it was just funding the other cards- they want to turn a decent profit on every PPV.

The issue is what happens after these shows- does Hearn carry on with these back garden shows or does he try to get fans back in stadiums before he attempts another PPV?

As someone has stated earlier Joshua/Pulev this year is very likely to take place in the Middle East/elsewhere rather than the UK because of the lack of revenue from a stadium crowd.

I shouldn't really engage, you are completely missing the point.

No one asked any of the above to work for free and wouldn't expect them to.

People have already paid their Sky subscription, there has been a worldwide pandemic where lots of people are struggling financially, there is a boxing match and card being touted for nigh on 20 quid, which is not at the level it should be for that cash, as you have admitted yourself.

Maybe, just maybe, the card could have been priced more reasonably? Is that so hard to get your head around?

It's like the previous 14 pages don't exist mate, just keep defending the indefensible, coz 'numbers' or whatever.

Being obsessed with other people making as much money as they can and to hell with everyone else is not a good look, but of it makes you happy then so be it.

The adverts on ppvs actually grate more than watching a fat pudding. I'm paying 20 quid to watch boxing not to be sold feckin car insurance or whatever other crap they're trying to flog

well yea but if fighters genuinely thought their life was in danger you wouldn’t have many of them getting in the ring even for millions. The fact is they all know the reward far outweighs the risk and a couple of fights on PPV and your set for life. I think it was Bellew who used to overdramatise it all the time genuinely fearing for his life writing a will before the Haye fight saying his wife and kids are all that matters to him. Still took the risk though didn’t he?

The fact of the matter is Hearn and Whyte are being greedy *******s trying to fleece the fans by putting on this joke of a card in his back yard. He is trying to force the fans hands. Like I think it’s and interesting fight and I would like to watch it but I’m not paying for it. That’s the dilemma a lot of fans will have. And Hearn knows it. You think Hearn is investing any of this money he’s earning back into the sport? Is he ****. So PPV’s like this only serve to fleece the fans and turn them off the sport. Once this sort of golden age of British boxing is over the sport will decrease in popularity again. Hearn seems to think because he manage to sign a ridiculously marketable fighter in AJ he’s some kind of saviour of boxing. Which is all a load of bollocks of course.
