The more skilled fighter doesnt always win a fight especially if a huge size advantage is involved. And in any case most of todays heavys are very coordinated for their size. Fury moves 10x better than bambi on ice Corbett
Fine, you smart ass How about Valuev? How did he loose to Haye and Chagaev if height is so relevant? Hell, old ass Holyfield should have gotten the nod as well. Tye Fields? Leduan Barthelemy is the same height as Mike Tyson. He should be having a field day at 126. But this happened: This content is protected And as much as i have seen from Fundura, he is extremely hittable. Then there is the fact that he can only re-hydrate so much. SHW´s will have 30 or 40 lbs on their smaller opponents. Fundora will not. You could make a case that 10lbs at Super-Welter is the same as 30lbs at Heavyweight. Even if that were true, then for some ****ed up reason, most top 154lb guys in recent years has been huge for the weight. So Fundora won´t have a big since advantage over them. And Fundora just recently fought to a draw with a guy more his own height. Skills pay the bills, as that dumb saying goes. Unfortunately Fundora does not have them skills: This content is protected But hey, maybe he will get better. Who knows. That height alone is a ***** to deal with.
Exactly. His height and weight were negated. Boxing is a about skills and tactics. Tactics being the key. If you have the size, you must know how to utilize it. Paul Williams did not do it. Antonio Margarito however did. Brandon Rios at 135 was all about his size and raw aggression. Against Acosta he made it work. However against Abril he could not do so. Abril knew how to negate those strengths of his.
He's a gangly stalker who gives up his height and swings big sloppy roundhouse punches with his mouth gaping open. Very little intelligent use of his height or reach.
Imagine how ridiculous that would look... This content is protected https://www.ufc.com/video/roy-nelson-vs-stefan-struve-ufn-21 There's lost of extreme height/size disparity David vs. Goliath at HW but not as much as the lower weight classes. Trying think of some.... Tete/Casimero was pretty extreme but nowhere in this ballbark. Any that come to.mind at the lower weights? @Boxing Prospect feel free to chime as you're probably the foremost expert of the lower weights on here.
The biggest problem Paul Williams suffered was his constant weight jumping back and forth. Before beating Margarito, P Will had ZERO resume, other than beating Sharmba Mitchell who had been blasted out of 140 already. And losing to Carlos Quintana in his first defense of the WBO didn't help much either. He jumped to 160 for a fight, went to 154 for a fight w/ Verno. And back to 160. He jumped up and down too much to secure a proper rating in any one division for the most part IMO. Especially at WW, where a combination of very few top wins and movement hindered him.
