Spinks could adapt to any style, but no one could ever figure out his unpredictable attacks or pin him down with his unpredictable defence.

He always looked to be off balance.

Put him in black and white footage and suggest he's a defensive whiz from the turn of the century and he'd be getting laughed at on this forum.

To give Spinks credit is to indirectly give Mike Tyson credit so that's a no go.

Spinks power at 175 was mind boggling. If he started faster or fought slightly differently he'd have a string of early ko's on his record. He ended and turned fights with one punch and with either hand to boot. He's a tier #1 puncher at 175.

It's not uncommon for him to be losing a fight and turn it around with one right hand. He did it against Lopez, Johnson, Mustafa etc.

Absolutely. In some fights he all but slept walked along, got tagged enough to come out of his near slumber and finished it. From memory Celestine was like that. He could bomb with the left as well never better exemplified than against Johnson.

Those were remarkable punches that they possessed. Archie Moore hit pretty damn hard too at 175

    Moore is a great mention.

Others that come readily to mind are EMM, Moorer and going further back Fox, Murphy, Berlenbach and Sheppard.

Michael Spinks was without a doubt the best light heavyweight I've ever scene a never lost a fight and never fought a payperview.

Punch of the year and certainly an ATG one for the highlight reels for decades to come.
