Why is it looked so down upon, if a fighter is getting badly pummeled and concussed multiple times in a fight why is quitting such a bad thing. I think avoiding permanent brain damage is way better than looking brave for the media.
The people that moan when fighters quit are the same people that would stay off work cos of a runny nose
X4. There is a time and a place for it. I am sure that we would all agree that certain quitages, such as the two legendary ones by Tor Hammer, are just sad, and the guy was right to leave boxing. But when you are talking about a guy taking unnecessary punishment when he knows he ain't going to win...why? Muhammed Ali, Joe Louis, Jerry Quarry, Kim Duk-koo...we can go and on with guys that did not know how to quit, and ended up in tragic condition. I heard that Quarry could not shave himself when he died.
Fighters fight, quitters quit. It’s no shame in losing but it is in quitting and it will never be acceptable, regardless of profession. Try it at your own job, just leave your work mid shift and see what happens.
Most jobs won’t potentially cause permanent brain damage, I doubt fighters want to quit, but if they’re taking big head shots and they know they’ll take more if they keep fighting it’s a smart move to shut off their warrior spirit and take their health into consideration

Quitting is fine with me when a fighter is clearly taking a massive beating and in imminent danger of getting permanently hurt. Cotto vs Marge is a great example of a guy giving it his all but coming up short. The alternative is Perez vs Mago and fights of that ilk, where everyone suddenly gets a conscience in the tragic aftermath where many had none before. The only time when I'd criticise a fighter for quitting was when it was clear he didn't want to put in a night's work or had been paid to lose. There's not really a gray area here and it's generally pretty obvious when someone quits for those reasons.
What about when your work environment is causing you potentially life-threatening health issues the longer you remained there?
This is the most ridiculous approach to life. Boxing can be an uncomfortable sport to watch when a fighter and trainer continue to carry on taking an unnecessary beating. Suppose if a formula one car gets badly damaged and starts to smoke you think the drivers a ***** for not finishing the 50 remaining laps at 4mph whilst being burnt alive? If a player breaks an arm in a game of football, are they a quitter? Could still kick the ball with both legs right? I suppose when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan should have continued on fighting right? The entire country hadnt been completely destroyed at that point. Sure they knew the war and cause was lost but no need to turn soft and quit.

The funny part is that the only ppl that are ok with quitting is losers that quit as soon as life gets hard. No real fighter will never be ok with quitting.
Only in professional boxing is it "expected" that a fighter never quit even when he is in an untenable position taking punishment... The ref and corner can and will normally save them but some circumstances occur where they can survive through all the rounds. Should Chisora have been allowed to stay out and take another 2 rounds of Fury jabbing his head off? no. Do you want to see that? no Should Wilder have been allowed to stay out and keep getting battered by Fury? no. Do you want to see that? no
Then you should of thought about that before you got this job, ppl relying on you to finish your job.
