Hi Kev, I voted for Holmes for that reason. Charles is more versatile with more strings to his bow so to speak but Holmes jab, height, reach, footwork and clinching ability make him a better overall boxer at heavyweight than the Cincinnati Cobra for mine. Cheers Matey.
Great minds... Charles' skills are prettier and his style more exciting, but I don't think that it makes him a better boxer either. And it's great to see that you're back! I was worried that you'd been banned permanently.
I picked Ezzard Charles. Larry Holmes has the better left jab and right uppercut but Ezzard had better footwork and more rounded arsenal.
We're talking about a guy who has very little credentials for a puncher (especially for a heavyweight) vs a guy who has excellent ones. Charles KOed Moore, Marshall, Bivins, three all-timers. He also KOed several heavyweight contenders like Layne, Ray, Barone, Valentino etc; and Charles also blinded someone with the shots he hit them with and gave another fellow Cauliflower Ear. He killed Baroudi. Look at his common opponents with Archie Moore. He KOed Bivins and Marshall quicker. He KOed Satterfield with a single punch, no-one ever did that. He also did infinitely better vs Burley, and Charles hurt his granite chin multiple times. And Holmes doesn't have any KOs as devastating as Charles' over Satterfield and Reynolds. I can't see any case for Holmes as a harder hitter P4P.
Charles is the more complete fighter Holmes basically threw the jab followed by the right in either a cross or uppercut his jab and uppercut were as good as anyone's but he didnt go to the body and he didnt really have a good left hook.Charles had a great hook and better all round game. I don't think there's much in it for power Charles stopped Ray once, Layne once, Bivins once Baksi was stopped on his feet with cut eyes,Barone was only179lbs.Satterfield was ko'd by Harold Johnson,Bob's chin wasn't much. Beshore's ear swelled up so much he had to be rescued on his feet. Moore was a lhvy,Marshall a super middle,Burley a welter/middle.
Thanks mate n lets just say that I won't be posting in or reading the " Lounge " section anymore hahaha.
I’m sorry, is the argument here that boxers who kill someone in the ring are better punchers because that makes no sense — do you think a bantam who killed someone in the ring hits harder than a middle who has not? I also don’t see any great change in his KO rate after as opposed to before — if there is you’d also have to consider the better rate of opposition later rather than just assume he became a hunt-and-peck artist. I don’t see Ezzard as a great puncher. Adequate, sure, but I see Holmes power shots carrying a lot more power and being a lot sharper. Power is also conveyed in the effectiveness of his jab, although it was not a knockout punch. In short, you can come up with an explanation (he killed a man) and extrapolate that he somehow decided to hit less hard after that incident, but it’s not like he knocked out everybody before and that changed after.
If you base it on either resume or eye test it's Charles and it's not close. I'm struggling to find any justification at all to put Holmes above him. Charles was a top tier all time great as both a technician and overall fighter
You can add a loss of his natural killer instinct after the Baroudi fight as an another factor in that percentage. EDIT: I see you mention this in another post. As you were.
You're no longer interested in the political rants of dishonest, misinformed wretches? That place is a cesspool, but I miss it.
Sure whats next? P4P Goat Ezzy does better against the corpse of Joe Louis than 187lb Evander Holyfield would, who was a worse boxer too? My ***, we have a winner here! My *** 2nd, the eye test when giving away size https://viewsync.net/watch?v=HnvtDcpPpMI&t=235.25&v=6s2rOOocTXs&t=747.84&mode=solo
