Miller has previously been in Chisora’s corner as a second to Don Charles so there’s some experience there of big fight heavyweight boxing. Bringing in Caldwell is a surprise but isn’t a bad move. He initially wanted Mark and Jimmy joining the corner on the night but he’s burnt his bridges with the Tibbs family. Expect to see Whyte boxing more in this fight and not look to brawl until Povetkin starts to look his age. It’s Whyte on PTS or by late stoppage for me.
Babic been main sparring partner I think as well as Ellis Machin, a light heavy and Harding jr for speed work. My pal said he’s looked great in sparring.
Funny that you should say "povetkin to look his age" Have you seen him, he looks really fresh and about 25 years old in the interviews I've seen him in this past day or 2. Something has worked for him in the midst of these restrictions.
I was wondering whether he’d be rolling back the years for this fight. I imagine they’ll both me juiced up for this.
A great athlete for sure but nothing will stop him turning 41 next month. He’ll be a real handful for 6 rounds but can’t see him having the engine for 12 hard rounds with what is now a prime Whyte.
Yea i doubt too much testings been done as of late, your bang on Povetkin has maintained a similar weight his entire career, whilst amazing its rather suspect
Switching trainers is a bad move, Tibbs is responsible for a lot of the success Whyte has had.. in implementing great fight strategies against a broad range of top fighting contenders and styles however, a change of trainer would affect Whyte less so than any other boxer because Whyte is a real fighter.... the training sharpens his skills but he is already packed with power and enough to deal damage to anyone... he was training himself out of a dusty old garage for a large part of his pro career Whyte is a handful and dangerous in shape/ out of shape.. new trainer/no trainer
People reading too much into this, it's a smart move from Whyte adding some more experience into his corner and also someone who has been in the "Fight Camp" mix already. He wanted to involve the Tibbs once back in the UK but clearly that didn't work out so he's adding Coldwell. Shane McGuigan for example, you often used to see Jimmy Tibbs turn up on fight night and help work the corner. More recently... Freddie Roach and Hatton with Ben Davison for Fury Wilder 1.
But the Roach one didn't go too smoothly did it, with Roach afterwards criticising the tactics and Fury ending up hiring a totally new training team in the end. Another example is Ricky Burns and Nelson having Sims as a "second pair of eyes" in the corner and then afterwards Burns sacked Nelson and hired Sims. But yeah you're right it's not that unusual and McGuigan using Tibbs is a good example. Just think the timing is a little strange. Literally days out he announces it. Had Coldwell been involved in the training for the last three or four weeks it would have been more understandable. Surely Whyte and Miller have developed a plan for the fight and it just seems odd that Coldwell is now being brought in having not been privy to any of the training beforehand. Most likely he has been brought in as a "second pair of eyes" to make specific observations but we'll see how it plays out on Saturday I guess.
Jimmy tibbs is a man you want in your corner tbf, straight to the point no bs with him and very well respected.
Whyte just said on a interview that Dave Coldwell asked Whyte if he could go in his corner that’s the worst arse licking and fame attention seeking Twwatt I’ve ever heard ov
I’ve heard lots about him being a snide but asking Whyte if he could go in his corner only confirms what lots of trainers say about him
