Daniel Cormier eye pokes him 5 times in two fights and the media doesn’t talk about it but when Stipe does it once the media talks about it a lot
It's pretty messed up when you think about it. When someone intentionally fouls you, you have to foul them back to deter them. It's all the more serious when it concerns something as vulnerable as your eyes. You know, eye pokes are gonna happen, but DC was literally throwing them out like a jab towards Stipe's face. He wasn't trying to parry and reached too far. He wasn't measuring for a right hand or using a long guard to prevent him from coming forward and accidentally poked the guy. That was 100% intentional. Stipe's was every bit as intentional, and I don't blame him one bit for that. At a certain point, it's about your self-defense and future well-being when you're almost in a street fight level of danger. The poor guy had eye surgery over it after the second fight, right? Anyway, Cormier is a great fighter, but he got what he deserved. It's a very bad look for him to carry as his last memory in the sport, but that's what he chose to do.
Think it was nick peet on the pre fight breakdown said that Cormier should keep his hands up and his fingers out and it was up to the ref to make him stop eye poking stipe. Post fight he blamed stipe for eye poking Cormier however.
I blame the referees and commission. Either it's a foul or it's not. It happens in every fight and very very very rarely does a fighter get a point deducted. They are warned by the ref in the back before the fight when they get their hands wrapped regarding what is and is not allowed during the fight so why then give them additional warning during the fight when they foul sometimes 2 or 3 times and still not penalise them with point deductions. The same thing happens with groin strikes. It a fighter is smart he should come out land a solid groin strike which obviously has a physical and mental detriment to their opponent for the rest of the fight. The ref's won't take a point. If the ref's where much more inclined to penalise these fouls then I bet they would happen far less than they currently do.
I don't think either intentionally poke. Wrestling backgrounds it's bred into you to have fingers out to grab.
Because you cant say jack about a black person without it been viewed as racism, thats how bad its got. Perfect example this is !
I'm glad Cormier got poked in the eye. He nearly blinded Stipe, yet Stipe took it like a man - DC whined. Sad to see DC go though. He was phenomenal at HW, very entertaining. Stipe is a tank, end of. Greatest HW next to Fedor. Absolute gent, too.
H2H Stipe gets ra.ped by Fedor imo mate, to fast aggressive, i think Cro Cop lays him out too prime, but hes there, his consistency places him up there with h2h better fighters in the atg chat. If you can make sense of that lol
Agreed. Stipe, for all the talk of being a Golden Gloves competitor, has ZERO head movement. He also can't switch gears. Fedor was so fast that Stipe wouldn't see it coming. Fedor could dig deep and find that next gear. Stipe/Kharatinov, at both mens best, would have been VERY interesting. Same for Stipe/Aleks.
Fedor and Cro Cop were both explosive fighters, Miocic doesnt stand a chance against them in their primes.
seeing that cormier won the first fight off eye pokes alone it shoulda been a deduction the first time it happened in the 3rd fight. When a man fouls you in a fight and it doesnt effect him on the scorecards you immediately even the score with a retaliation foul. It doesnt matter. Otherwise you are at the mercy of hoping the ref protects you. You protect yourself in there. Nobodies fault but stipes and his team for losin the first fight.
