There is never a good way to lose a match. But if you must lose, that’s the best way. Whyte looked in good shape. He was dominating POVETKIN and hurting him in every round.Think we all thought that fight was done and dusted after Round 4. Povetkin smashed him with a Hail Mary of an uppercut. That is HW boxing. But I think Whyte wins that fight 9 times out of 10.
Absolutely. Whyte wins 9 times out of 10. You can't do anything about a shot like that. It's just one of them things, it doesn't mean ****, fury was half a second away from losing the first wilder fight.... Hopefully he gets a rematch, Shame to see all his hard work and waiting undone by one punch. Fair enough if he had been beat up and knocked out fair and square but that must be hard to swallow getting caught cold like that.
Whyte wasn't dominating. He had longer arms but was giving up distance to Povetkin and was very slow to pull his own jab back and also to move out of Povetkin's punching range. Povetkin is an effecive, low volume counter puncher who has immense pedigree and his technique is pretty perfect, even now. To beat him you have to be very fast both in hands and feet and to constantly reset him. If you give him more than a few seconds to set his feet, he will immediately get his stance and crouch to throw his left hook. Wladimir's (illegal) tactics were just to bully him and throw him around. If Wlad was fighting fair, Povetkin would probably have drilled him into next week too with a left hook. Basically Whyte's neglected his own strengths and thought he could get into the same position as the round before and hurt Povetkin. However when Povetkin went back to his corner his head was totally 100% clear and still had his game plan and instincts to fight hard.
It's a daft point because wilder would knock out anyone if he caught them as clean as povetkin caught whyte. Sure he can do it but if he doesn't he'd get beat down worse than fury put on him. Wilders is a bum with a one trick pot shot, povetkin is skillful fighter who despite being past is is levels above wilder.
Maybe, or maybe he gets caught again. Whyte has improved a lot but he's always made mistakes and left himself open at times, that silly right hand he threw left him wide open. He threw a similar right hand earlier in the fight that left him open to be countered but Povetkin wasn't in a position to take advantage of it, but the 2nd time Whyte did it, Boom Povetkin got him.
Whye can`t jab the way Fury did in his rematch with Wilder and Whyte doesn`t have Fury`s defensive prowess.
Price wins the rematch. There's nothing you can do about a shot like that. Thats shot from Thompson would have KO'd anyone. How many times will you Brits fall for the sky hype. It's obvious. No, Povetkin wins the rematch. He's just too technically skilled for Whyte. 2 flash knockdowns != KTFO.
I think so Whyte was paying a lot of respect to Povetkin. He knew this could happen. Even after he hurt Povetkin. He started dropping him with grazing concussive punches and it looked like it was about to go downhill The old dog held his head though and landed an amazing punch. Whyte's needs to just keep on his jab. He wasn't comfortable with Povetkins ability to slip in close. Normally Whyte would explode and trade in that scenario, but not tonight. He wanted it to go late. Povetkin said he was working on that close range stuff against Whyte, he was pretty comfortable closing in on him. Parker didn't want to close in on Whyte at all. Whyte high guards and just stands there like a total sausage. No footspeed. Whyte needs to learn this one thing: When Povetkin is hurt, his legs are weak, he will not close on you. You need to close on him. He isn't great on the backfoot. Whyte needed to get aggresive after them knockdowns. not for long but just long enough. Shame for Whyte he hasn't got any kind of slickness to jib jab around. Even Wilder & AJ can jib jab around for a couple of rounds.
There is defo Price Thompson comparisons here. Thompson was in trouble in both those fights but just knew way too much.
He doesn't have to do, all he has to do is walk forward let his hands go, put wilder on the back foot and smash him to bits. Wilder is useless, all you have to do is pressure him and he folds like a pack of cards.
