Whyte gifted Pov the shot, well within his rights to have a rematch clause for a fight he didn't need to take. All or nothing in the rematch for Dillian now!
Corrupt as **** and id imagine there are little gifts getting exchanged to gain favour with the authorities, in the way the promoter wants it to play out. Dirty dirty sport boxing.
A rematch is fine but it shouldn't be an eliminator. If this was a final eliminator, Povetkin should get a shot already. If that doesn't hold then a rematch makes sense but there's no reason to call it an eliminator. Povetkin-Hunter 2 actually makes far more sense as an eliminator now. Whyte would be lucky to still be considered top 10 right now, and a win over a 41 year old man on a second attempt obviously wouldn't make him a solid top 4 rated heavyweight either. Povetkin-Hunter 2 and Whyte-Parker 2 would be logical fights. Or anyone. Let them all fight each other. Rematch close fights, establish some sort of order. Get Ruiz back, old Ortiz, Usyk, Rivas .... or Joyce and Dubois ... even Hughie Fury and Chisora. They are all just heavyweights, no one proven special yet (Usyk only as a cruiser so far).
i know mate but my point is he said winner fights Fury when he know fine well Povetkin would have to fight Whyte if he won. So was at it making out a Povetkin win would put him in Whytes shoes next.
Arum should go to WBC if Wilder fight is delayed and ask them to call Furys mandatory now, so it doesnt get in way next year. See how Hearn likes that.
Well, if you follow that logic, there's no way in hell Whyte can come off a KO loss to the 'undeserving' Povetkin and call the rematch an eliminator. Which I would agree with. A rematch is fine but it can't be an eliminator. Whyte's proven himself down below old man Povetkin's standard, on last night showing. He needs to go to the back of the queue now.
If you’re a fighter, then you’d want Hearn looking out for you. He’s done his job brilliantly, Whyte gets an immediate rematch, the subsequent PPV loot attached and a chance to return to WBC number 1. Even Shannon had a rematch clause against Ball in only her 6th pro fight with technically nothing on the line. The WBC regulations have nothing to do with him but when looking out for matchroom fighters he definitely looks after them.
This is how it’s going to go, lads. Whyte is going to absolutely ice Povetkin in the rematch. The punch that bingo’d him will be described (as it already as) as a ‘punch from the gods’ and ‘this is heavyweight boxing it happens’ stuff. It will be whitewashed from the casual audience‘s memory and the talk will immediately go back to him facing the winner of Fury v Wilder. If he fights Pov in Dec as planned, then the defeat will not affect the time frame at all for a Whyte v Fury/Wilder. You know who won’t forget it though...’us lot’ (apart from your usual handful on here). I’d love Povetkin to retire now to halt that progress but can’t blame him for picking up one more payday.
You’re right that Pov didn’t deserve the fight. He lost against Hunter imo. However, Whyte should have to put together 2-3 wins before he is considered mandatory again. You get beat, you go down the pecking order.
I'd be up for a rematch if it was a close fight, but it wasn't. Whyte could not have been stopped in more devastating fashion. Pov should just retire now.
Agree especially when you see the fighters high in WBC Rankings: After Povetkin its, Wilder, Usyk, Ortiz and Ruiz. Whyte not in their top 10 anymore.
Whyte ought to beat a shot, old man in the rematch, but then he ought to have beat him last night. He 8 years younger than the guy, 2 stones heavier. The fact is, yes, heavyweight boxing can end with one punch from nowhere, but Whyte is a bit chinny and his defense is poor. I wouldn't be that surprised to see the old man spark him again. The fact that Whyte was KO'd last night was no great surprise. But getting KO'd when Povetkin was already pretty much battered and spent after that 4th round was the real drama. It's crazy that people have been trying to shoehorn Whyte into the Fury/Joshua category. Joshua's already knocked him out, and Fury would make a fool of him.
Its b.c. simply as that. Even the commentators said that the winner will go for that "green" belt. Same s**** Hearn was saying, that Whyte took a lot of risk and put his status on the line. And now all this is just a cheap talk. If i were Povetkin i would either demand 90-10 split in my favor or f***** them. If Povetkin refuse, Whyte will be 100% f*****. Even if Povetkin doesn`t get his right deserved title chance, Whyte won`t be mandatory as well. Povetkin is pushing 41, what is the sense for him to go for the rematch? There is not much money in a such fight. He just need a tune up fight, and then a title one and call it a day.
