Is it a rule of the English federation? Because it happens very often that the referee stops without counting and yet the fight is counted as a knockout. Canelo vs Kovalev at random.
It's a universal rule. If the ref's count reaches 10, it's a KO. If the ref waves it off before that happens, it's a TKO. A TKO is still a KO (of sorts). I think Povetkin is a lock for KO of the year, put it that way.
I had never paid attention to this. I thought that when a referee stopped the fight before the count of 10 for obvious reasons, the fight was classified as KO. But I am convinced that this happens often.
It should be a knockout . The ref stopped the count because he could have counted to 15 and he still wasn't getting up. That surely means knocked out.
It's ridiculous that's considered a TKO. If the man is on his feet and it's waived, it's a TKO. If the man is on the ground and it's waived, it should be a KO. Whyte was not getting up.
Agree The ref realized he was not getting up and should have awarded AP a clean KO, and went through with the full 10 count so the actual difference between a KO and a TKO is whatever kind of a “It’s over” mood“ that particular ref is in that win was a decisive as any ko I’ve have ever seen
Because the count was waived. Its a stupid technicality that no one should pay attention to. Ko of the year so far.
