Yes none of these guys are trained journalists or pundits .in fairness to them they have had smith as a tutor.........smith is the ultimate jumped up fan boy in power..i had hoped chisora throwing a table on his head may have sent him upstairs but its gone the other way ...this whole era he has been around has seen terrible production values, dumbing down,a lapse in product etc.... all these sham ppvs and the fabrication and gaslighting of a apparently thriving scene to tge viewer....doesnt change the fact....the sport is dying.....thats why these guys from previous generations are still knocking out todays next big things and hanging around....boxing is all promoted wrong...who wants to support a loudmouth lardarse like whyte who fights once or twice a year and never against the very best by choice...yet hes sold as this generations sonny liston Because we in britain have the money...and sky pretty much runs things here...2nd raters can be sold as world beaters.......it seems to be a sky thing dating back to smiths earliest days...when warren was on his 2nd generation on sky during 2000-2004 we got terrible meaningless shows....hatton with his wbu belt reign...the whole British light middleweight scene being promoted as world beating when they were all domestic level also rans...curiously as soon as warren goes back to itv he starts making all the tough fights he wouldn't at sky...
Great response! You should make a thread about Smith, and if he's good for British Boxing etc. It'd be good!
Those guys were genuinely great boxing callers/analysts. Merchant is my favourite analyst of all time but when Dark and McCrory were at Sky, I thought it was the best boxing telecast on tv. It's got to the point now where it's far more pleasing listening to the BT guys talk and call on the fights.
He meant to say Povetkin never lost a round, except round 4. It's easy for the fingers to slip on these modern touch-screens.
Away fighters have so much against them when they go into the big fights. Smith & sky then add into the percentages tilting them towards the home fighter, by using subtle hypnosis techniques of suggestion and leading. It's quite refreshing when u see someone come and upset the odds by putting the result beyond any manner of opinion and suggested outcome and ktfo of the home fighter.
He was presenting and not commentating thankfully. Channel 5 always seem to somehow get decent pundits- who can remember Al Bernstein calling British Title fights a few years ago?
Wow. That actually counts as a bit of a grilling from IFL TV for once. He had Smith squirming a little there when forced to explain how everyone was writing Povetkin off. Questioning the commentary and pundits who were saying Povetkin didn't win a round. Asking for an explanation on what the judges were doing in that first fight. Asking for an explanation on why the picture and sound was questionable. Good job Umar IFL Umar. I think the wide scale questioning of Sky and their blatant bias is gaining traction now, people are not putting up with it anymore. It is a cult this Sky and Matchroom thing. They are all told what to say, like politicians they all stick together and come out with the same stuff.
