Quite disappointing to see IMO, as usual when a boxer gets KO'd he gets mocked on Forums & Social Media, I like Whyte but I wouldn't say I am his biggest fan but I did feel for him on Saturday and I respect the fact he was mandatory and was still taking hard fights. I just don't get why guys like him take pelters for getting in the ring with a dangerous fighter rather than take Push overs.
Mixed feelings on Whyte, he's taken some tough fights and certainly didn't have to take this one in lockdown when he could have sat tight, and he's been treated appallingly by the WBC. On the other hand he failed a drugs test and got away scot free and has been the beneficiary of some biased decisions and officiating.
Povetkin is a hard nights work for anyone even if he is getting on. fair play to whyte for taking the fight I still think getting rid of tibbs wasn’t a good idea during fight prep
It's a professional fight. It was a fair fight, a good match-up, and I'm sure Whyte was paid well. Really well. As boxing fans we pay to see guys get knocked out. Why the hell would sympathy come into it ? If sympathy belongs in professional boxing it should be for boxers who are struggling to pay the bills and thrown in the ring with minimal preparation to get battered by guys levels above them, for a few hundred quid or a grand or two, before deductions. Guys with no real management or trainer. Not multi-millionnaires who get their lawyers to get them out of PED troubles, and get their lawyers to fire their trainers weeks before a big fight.
Ultimately it was a bit of a cherry pick gone wrong. Sure, he could have not taken the fight but he’s pocketed a few million for fighting a past it name. Povetkin isn’t the fighter he once was, got lucky in getting a draw with hunter last time out and hasn’t looked great in years. Great shot though. On top of that, he got off of a recently failed drug test, has benefitted from matchroom refs and judges in several fights. I enjoy watching him and quite like him but I think that is why people find it so funny. He was meant to win on Saturday and it backfired. Not that I laughed, was a shock and brings Whyte down to earth quite literally. He’s a decent fighter but not world class and nowhere near the top 3.
**** him he just made 4 million, good enough for him, he's no shrinking violet himself, take the rough with the smooth and get the **** on with it !
no sympathy, the fact he believes hes a ppv fighter and is happy to fleece the never ending supply of mugs in the uk irritates me.
