If Povetkin pulls off the unthinkable...

I think it could be ranked highest as one of the most amazing achievements in boxing history considering he'll be maybe 42 when he does this.

But Joshua and Fury have a lot more work to do if they want to be considered one of the best ever. Still a lot more to prove.

Prime Povetkin got annihilated vs Prime Wladmir, so if 42 year old Povetkin beats Joshua and Fury, we can safely say that no fighter these days is even close to a Prime Wlad, never mind Lewis, Tyson, Ali etc.

 

It would lead to a lot of revisionist history of how bad this HW era is.

 

I think the quality of it is not just in how good they are compared to other era technically, but the show they put on.

I'd say Prime Wladmir is better than anyone around today, but his era was no where near as entertaining and this era is, lets face it.

11 years of Wlad dominating everything wasn't very exciting. At least now no one is safe.

 

Unlikely he'll go that route really. Likelihood is he'll fight Whyte and then Fury if he doesnt fight Joshua.

If he does then he'll have a voluntary to use on anyone he wants cant see Joshua fitting in here, hes already beat him and Povetkin doesnt really bring anything to benefit Joshua.

 

Not going to happen. He is way, way, way, way past it.

 

If all this happened, it would probably be the single greatest achievement in sports history.

 

What if he KO'd Wilder too? At that point he's almost the best ever. Just needs to rematch Wlad (they're both middle-age so let's count it), avenge that and he's definitely the best ever. Of course Ali always beats everyone, even though Povetkin would KO him flat with a left hook on a completely different level to Frazier, but we know how the mythology works.

If he beat Whyte again and Fury beats Wilder/Joshua, I hope Fury ditches the belt and lets Povetkin fight someone else for it. Because I can't see anything but a one sided beating from Fury due to the size and age difference, it would be the worst match-up Povetkin ever had in his entire career. And that's no way to go out.

 

Sadly, this. He might beat Whyte again but I don't see him starching Fury and AJ.

If, however, he managed, he's top 10 material and knocking on top 5.

As it is he has arguably the deepest resume in boxing today.

 

I'm not as high on Whyte as some, so that would color my rankings. But another win over Whyte, followed by a title/championship, in conjunction with the work he did on the way up would probably land him within my personal top 10 or so. He'd be in the discussion, anyway.

 

He would be top 10 atg if he pulled it off but unless Putin has found some new wonder ped it ain't going to happen. Dude is on the wrong side of the hill despite putting Whyte to sleep. he can certainly beat Whyte again, who btw should retire immediately if a repeat of Saturday occurs. .

 

If Alexander beat Whyte again, Joshua to overcome the first defeat and Fury, he'd be a top 10 HW all time.

It won't happen, of course.
