Povetkin didn`t look great against Hunter either.

Povetkin missed 90% of his hooks in this fight.

Whyte drops those hands as rounds go buy.

whole different guy by the 4th round compares to the first. He's another guy with those over developed big shoulders and that style and flaw really creates big windows of opportunities for opponents as rounds go by.

He looked like he wanted to quit fooling around and ice the fool in front of him which funnily enough is exactly what he did.

He looked like he was tired, not that he wanted to quit.

True. But Hunter looked better than Whyte against povetkin and I don't rate Hunter so that tells me that dillian Whyte is just another run of the mill contender with a strong promotional backing. It confirms what my eyes have always told me about whyte

The 4th round was Povetkin`s worst round.

Trouble with Whyte is he has lapses in concentration where he just switches off and does dumb things that decent fighters can take advantage of.

His defence is usually alright. Not spectacular but effective, like a lot of his game. He keeps himself tall, keeps a pretty tight high guard, and blocks a lot of shots on the gloves. But every now and again he'll dip down for no reason, or throw a range finding left or right hand that leaves him exposed. He also loses a lot of form when tired which can lead to knockdowns.

His defence against uppercuts is a big weakness though. Really needs to tighten that up.

That doesn't mean much to me when you only have a 5 round sample size

I don't think I'd rate Whyte's defense that highly because he could fend off an obviously fading 41 year old man before he got blasted into October.

That's not necessarily something to criticise him for though, especially given his heavy legs and lack of agility. He also integrates the jab well to control range on his opponent and prevent them just teeing off on him. It's not pretty or nuanced but Whyte's not someone who's ever going to learn high level boxing skills.

If I were in charge of Whyte's rebuilding I wouldn't overhaul his whole style, but simply tighten up the limited tools he has and try to limit his weaknesses and sloppy habits. It wouldn't be enough to have him beating the likes of Fury or Joshua, but it'd keep him firmly in the top five for a couple of years and earn him a few more decent paydays. That's about the most that can be expected given what there is to work with.
