Wonder it they will try and get the Bentley vs Heffron fight as a british eliminator. Winner to face Andrew Robinson who seems to have been mandatory for a year
Yarde Spelmen is a really odd one. On one hand he will come forward and try and make AY work at a decent clip which Yarde badly needs. but he's already been almost totally out boxed by Arthur. It seems strange to drop down from Kovalev to Spelmen unless they realise now he needs a lot of work to get to world level and be a real threat.
Can see Gorman slipping up here, not an easy fight at all. We all know if Gorman was with matchroom after the Dubois loss he would be fighting a much easier fight. Warren doesnt have the stable of matchroom but some decent fights in here
Harris v Edwards would be a cracking fight. If things work out they way it’s looking, Frank haters are going to be in hell as he has some brilliant fights lined up for BT over the next 4 months; Fury - Wilder Dubois - Joyce Taylor - Ramirez Unification Herring v Frampton
Couldn't they find someone better for Yarde? I know about the bum carousel and all, but this seems like a step backwards from that even.
Sort of fight that wouldnt happen without covid. I so hope that happens. Would make sense to have that on William's show
Would be one of Yarde’s best wins to be fair. Spelman is durable and Yarde is badly in need of seeing if he can do the full 12 (although I appreciate this is only 10 rounds). Gorman deals with Lartey quite comfortably. No shame in getting chinned off Dubois but I believe he fought nowhere near to his potential against Dubois. Personally, I think he lost his focus completely. He didn’t stick to his plan at all, he barely threw a jab. It all went out the window.
I totally agree with you regarding Gorman, he just didn't perform like I expected him to on the night. I think, what it was, is that DDDs step in with the jab, was so forceful, it caught him off guard so to speak. Now maybe I'm wrong, cos it ain't a secret that Daniel has such a forceful jab, and you would of thought, that him n Ricky would of come up with some answers for it. But if both Daniel & Nathan had a battle of the jabs, unless you add a defensive move in as you jab (gorman) I.e. take the head off the line, or slip off the jab or ready to hand block as u jab, then DDDs jab is going to come out on top as he has a good power jab. Most of Nathan's attempts was to counter with that looping left hook which left him out of position to do anything else. I was high on Nathan going into that fight and iirc you rated him also. I think your right 20, I think he lost his focus.
Hang On, Spelman? Really? Coming off back to back defeats, lost to Arthur last time out, never won a round, 111th in the world on Boxrec. Warren can laugh at Whyte slipping up and that's fair, most of us had a little giggle but at least Hearn and Whyte took a risk, hard to slip up when there is no risk. The only time Yarde took a risk was against an old worn Kovalev and got knocked out by a jab. Rest of the card is OK, but nothing special.
I agree, Yarde is one of the most protected fighters on boxing, they took the risk of Kov because of the drinking stories and the fact he was apparently looking old and worn. FW tried the old Cleverly route, grab the title, hold it to ransom and hope nobody decent is made mandatory. The problem Yarde has now is the champions are all legit, most will iron him out and they know it. How can you go from a world title shot against Kovalev back to Ramierez 4-48-3 then to Spelman and then Arthur? That's one hell of a backward step, that's a backward marathon.
Just want to clarify, I don't think Yarde is a complete hype job, there is a lot to like, he isn't a terrible fighter and I believe he is above domestic level, that's why Spelman and Arthur are not good opponents now. For example, after the weekend, if Whyte (who hasn't fought for a European or World Title) went back to Tom Little and then Kash Ali.. You would all F'ING slaughter him. I would, I'm absolutely hammer him, and before we say about progression.. both Yarde and Whyte had very limited amateur careers. Yarde has fought for the WBO world title, that's significant. Yarde 29 years old, Whyte 32 years old, Yarde isn't a baby any longer, he hasn't got excuses you could make for the young Dubois. Get what I'm saying? You can't go from legit world title shots back to a fighter that 4-48-3, then a poor domestic fighter and then a half decent domestic fight. There are enough good European level fighters Yarde could face, some fringe world level, there are no more excuses now. I think we should all expect more from Yarde now, we need to see something that justifies the praise and hype.
I believe he’ll go life and death with Arthur. Will be interesting how he gets through that but I think he’ll get chinned.
@N17 looks like Bustsi is going down the same route as Yarde right now. If I was Bustsi I’d shop explore the possibility of leaving Matchroom. I’ve heard whispers that his trainer has told him to put himself in the shop window. JBs trainer and Hearn don’t seem to have a good working relationship by all accounts
