Great shout, bud. Morales shaking his head was so subtle but at the same time so obvious. It wasn’t like he was out on his feet or anything- like you said, he knew he was beat
I was gutted when Tsyzu lost and I still haven't seen his fight against Phillips to this day. I didn't have the internet back then but obviously Tszyu vs Hatton was a huge deal over here in the UK so I saw that one live. I hated seeing him go out like that on his stool all battered and swollen. Yeah GGG getting robbed against Ginger was bad. I've never actually seen Fenech vs Nelson I but I hear it was a highway robbery.
Saddest boxing moments to me were.... Vargas losing to Tito Vargas losing to Hoya Williams face first KO against Martinez Martinez getting stopped against Cotto Wlad vs Sanders Pac being KOd by JMM Katsidis getting stopped by Casa
Seeing Jones laid out on the canvas twice in a row. I was sad. I feel like it affected his rep for a bit of a while, especially that night where Antonio said "got any excuses tonight Roy?" Good thing that crap is over with and is forgotten.
Watching an Aging and Obviously affected by Parkinsons Ali fighting a Prime Larry Holmes......Saddest thing I have ever seen.!!!
his fight against Lamon Brewster was legendary. one of the most underrated heavyweight contests of all time IMO
Mate, for me Fenech v Nelson was bad, as a teenage fan of Fenech. The circumstances surrounding it too. The way Nelson disposed of him in the rematch made it far worse! The memories are pretty strong Serge, Fenech would have been the youngest and quickest to 4 titles in 4 weight classes and the first to do it undefeated, from memory. For an aussie to have accomplidhed that would have been huge! Fenech hadn't fought in the States since his 'infamous' exit at the 84 olympics, which was viewed in Australia as a total 'rip off'. In the quarter finals he was awarded the win, in the ring only to have it reversed on appeal! Then when finally going back there, for that to happen, was sad, in boxing terms. When Nelson stopped Fenech in the rematch, it really opened my eyes to society in general. I was a naive kid. Fenech was my hero and the day after the Nelson rematch, he still was but all I heard on radio, tv and from the people around me were jokes at Fenechs expense. It was ****ing sickening to be honest and it taught me a lot about aussie society and how they only like winners and don't you dare lose **** or you can go **** yourself! I watched the Tszyu v Philips fight on tv at a bar in Melbourne. I had some crazy depressing **** happening to me back then, so when Kostya lost to Vince, it was kinda like 'well that figures'! I remember going home and as soon as I walked in the door my Dad asked me "how'd the fight go?'" He lost was my reply, "You're joking" ? He was shocked aswell! I have always felt that Tszyu v Hatton was a total ambush. If only Kostya had a top american trainer and promoter, they would have seen it coming and maybe avoided that fiasco!
I'm clearly not as old as some other posters looking at their favourite moments and I'm not gonna lie and pick a moment I saw on YouTube the other day. But as an Asian guy fully on the hype train Khan Vs Prescott was a dagger to the heart man.
Frank Bruno v Lennox Lewis sticks in my head. One of my earliest boxing memories as a child and I was devastated with the result!
- Emile Griffith vs Benny Paret Most brutal classic clip I've ever watched in boxing documentary show. It's crazy to see two people risked their life to feed their family killing each other on the ring and one of them eventually got killed. So heartbreaking and touching to see Griffith had to live his life for years in guilt and he finally met Paret's son who forgave and consoled him. - Maxim Dadashev vs Subriel Matias I watched this match on my TV and witnessed a guy got brutally outclassed and took heavy punches so many times. Very saddening to see that a stop from his trainer is not enough to save this man's life.
Bellew said he beat an injured broken down Haye tbf and even said a prime Haye would starch him. He even said before the first fight that his gameplan was to wait for Hayes broken body to collapse on itself and beat the corpse up. I can get why people dislike Bellew, especially when hes selling a fight he can be irritating as hell but have to acknowledge him fairly when he speaks the truth like that. Ofciurse he was gobna celebrate though winning that fight and then getting a rematch probably set him up for life financially. It on the punters if they paid for it its been clear for a long time that Haye was a broken snakeoil salesman.
