Sergio Martinez is one of my favorite fighters, He was ducked by a lot in his day and had some great fights in his career. A great all round fighter.

It's sad to see him back at 45 years old, but i wish him all the best and will root for him against anybody he fights.

The WBA went pretty fast ranking Martinez as the NR:6... He'll probably be matched against Eubank Jr soon.

    Eubank will kill Martinez.
You have a young strong fighter facing an old one with a bum knee.
Better he faces Oscar for his health .

DAZN need an opponent for Canelo

Sergio Martinez is one of the biggest names in the Middleweight division.

I lost a lot of sympathy for him being ducked when he decided to do the same to Golovkin.

Yep! Dropping the belt to Cotto created a huge mess at MW. Martinez at the tail end of his career wanted nothing to do with Golovkin. The detractors can pretend all they want but Sturm, Quillin, Martinez, Cotto, Clenelo(until fishnets thought GGG had aged enough) among others disgracefully ducked Golovkin for years. There's no way around this if you followed the division at the time and weren't blinded by an agenda.

BJS was also on record saying he wasn't ready. Korobov lost to Lee and was rebuilding and Pirog had the stones but got injured at the worst time. People also forget that Jacobs was playing hardball as his mandatory challenger too. How often has the challenger had to be semi-forced to take the title shot they've earned for themselves?

I think history will be kind to Golovkin with most respected boxing historians seeing that he was clearly ducked at his peak and a victim of boxing politics in general. It's hard to think of someone in recent memory who was as avoided as Golovkin was.

The thing I don't get about his detractors is that I think it's fine to think he would have fallen short of the hype but to blame him for being ducked during his physical peak is absolutely ****ing mental.

Who has he not been able to make a fight with who has been willing to fight him at middleweight? No-one. You can make an argument that he should have moved up in search of fights but what guarantee did he have that that would help? Froch and JCC made it clear they weren't taking the fight and Ward would have been a big ask for a debut at the weight before he decided to move up.

True. But let's be honest, would anybody stand a chance against "that" Golovkin with one leg?

I truly believe that Cotto would not have beaten a fully functional Martinez.

With one leg left, anybody would go for the small risk paydays.

Martinez, i don't blame, Boxing treated Martinez pretty bad.
