i defintely wouldnt bet a large sum of money on either one of these guys. maybe a small wager on haye gettin the tko.:thumbsup
I'm wondering this myself Bigcat. I know Maskaev can be sneaky with that right hand inside. If it gets a little sloppy and Haye falls in he could get nailed with Maskaev's short right. Both guys are chinny and both have **** poor stamina. Just that Haye is younger and has better reflexes. That said Maskaev is the kind of heavyweight that if you don't have a good chin he can make you look very bad. I'm not sure who wins yet.
i also like the idea of haye fighting iggy, after probably beating maskaev he should take on iggy then maybe a liahovich (sp?)... haye can build up the "soviet destroyer gimmick" on his way to a big time clash with wlad.
Lyakhovich isn't due to fight for another three years, when he'll get a WBO or WBA title shot. Haye-Dimitrenko is actually a good idea for a fight in my opinion, but I doubt it could be made.
yup a fight with dimitrenko would be better then liahovich agreed. still plays along the lines of the gimmick thing haye should do to promote himself even more.
True Maskaev got a belt two years ago but didn't look good in his two last fights (Okhello and Peter), he is way over the hill imo. Plus he got a fragile chin. McCall is past his prime too, but he poses a bigger test to Haye than Maskaev. Because he got an iron chin, comes to fight and packs a big punch (ok Maskaev can punch too). Believe me, Haye will have to go 12 hard rds against a real HW in McCall, if he can take McCalls punch he will probably outbox him with his superior speed (like Gomez did), but McCall will prove tough test. McCall had Gomez in trouble in their fight, and Gomez got a proven good chin. If Haye can get by McCall we'll know that he can survive among the top HWs, but a win against Maskaev will not prove anything.
Dimitrenko would get blasted out early by Haye. His chin is very weak, he can't deal with pressure, and Haye's speed/power/overall talent would be WAY too much for him. Dimitrenko is probably capable of hurting Haye, but it won't matter because chances are he will panic early on and won't even have time to adjust.
Isn't the current situation something like this? It took Peter a while to stop Maskev, and Maskev did land some on Peter. What would those shots do to Haye? If Maskaev prepares to work hard, he's has a good chance of KO'ing Haye. I think Haye is a mouthy fighter, but Maskaev is so old, boxing might be better off if Haye wins.
He will be toast. He has a questionable chin at cruiser. At HW he is going to be totally dependent on defense.
