Mosely wouldnt get a seconds rest vs a lwt JCC, Julio would pressure pressure pressure, bob & weave his way in, cut off the ring, pummell the body & switch to the head every now & then. This was the greatest Mexican fighter of all times here, that alone says what Chavez was all about. Prime Chavez was quick, good reflexes, great defence, good power, excellent stamina & really relentless. Not to forget he had 1 of the most solid chins in boxing history, I think Shane will find JCC extremely hard to nail cleanly but even when he does, Chavez will just come straight thru it like he did to murderous punching Edwin Rosario. Prime Chavez beats Mosely.
Alrighty there. atsch I would pick Duran and Whitaker over Mosley at 135...with Shane having a great chance in both those bouts. Shane would probably beat JCC on points with movement and in-and-out flurries. Julio's only shot is a KO, I'd say he gets it once in about 3 bouts with SSM. I'd make Shane a favourite against Floyd but that is another very close fight.
I agree with most of this, people just assumed that Mosley was boxing technician because of his quickness but in all reality name one fight where Mosley decided not to go toe to toe and just out boxed his opponent you'll be hardpressed to find such a performance from Mosley.
Chavez would chop Shane Down. Mosley 9 out of 10 will attempt to stand and "Fight" Wrong move. a lightweight Chavez will break him down. Chavez by T.K.O. 10th RD
JCC was not at LW weight for long. He jumped up and beat Rosario who I believe Shane would have outboxed and possilby stopped too if they had met. I believe JCC had four more fights and moved up to 140. Shane was a monster at 135. He was just not fast, he was powerful and had serious body punching power. Once he beat Holiday for the title via UD, all the other seven or eight opponents at LW he stopped. This is including Molina who gave Oscar a run for his money and Leija. He stopped them all. If he would have jumped to 140, he would have been an all time great at that weight. JCC would have had trouble with his speed and they would have gone toe to toe as far as body punching. Some posters really need to see Mosley at 135 before dismissing him as losing to JCC easily. Split decision for Mosley. By the way, I believe Mosley was chasing Oscar like PBf was. Mosley fought the same opponents like Molina and Leija.
Chavez beats him I'd say. No one KO's prime Chavez @ 135. And anyone going 12 rounds with chavez is going to look like an alien unless they have Pernell Whitaker defense which Shane Mosley has little of lol.
I hear what you're saying. And I've never really thought about this hypothetical matchup until this thread. I just keep going back to the JCC-Taylor fight as a point of reference. I see Mosley as a harder punching version of Taylor. I'm not saying JCC couldn't wear Mosley down, but Taylor hit JCC with a lot of punches, and I think Mosley was just as fast at 135 as Taylor was in his prime. I think it comes down to styles. If Mosley wants to box and move in and out, I think he wins. If he wants to prove how tough he is, he will lose. One thing is certain - this would have been a hell of a fight. :good
This thread has been done a few times before. Chavez outboxes him and breaks down the Mosley that likes to brawl to a late stoppage or comfortable decision. :yep
Exactly. Mosely is a stubbourn fighter who always looks to return any punishment doled out to him instantly. He is a solid puncher, and is extremely durable. His problem is, surprisingly that he is a very fast and durable puncher without much in the category of defense. It ends up being a durability contest, with Chavez having the superior defense. I have to say I believe this would likely go to decision. Much like the Cotto fight with Chavez never changing up styles in the later rounds, but relentlessly coming foward and beating Mosely to the body. Mosely being the game, tough guy he is will make it a fight the whole way though, but will come up short. Mosely is one of the toughest guys in boxing imo.
