No he didnt, Gains beat him convincingly,Louis did what he liked with him.Sharkey beat him clearly in their 1stfight Hayne's massacred him.Smith's punch was his right hand Carnera was a sucker for it.

"After winning the first four rounds and landing several straight rights that had little effect on Smith, Holmes got caught with a big right in the fifth after missing with one of his own. Immediately, Holmes hung on and walked the inexperienced Smith around the ring until his head cleared. Then toward the end of the seventh, Smith came out of a crouch after ducking a right hand and hit his head against Holmes's brow, opening a deep wound. Despite the efforts of cut man Percy Richardson, the bleeding continued almost unabated.

In the eighth Holmes was caught with a wicked right, and again he had to hold on. After the round, trainer Eddie Futch told Holmes to stop loading up with the right hand and to box. "Larry sacrificed some of his skills going for the knockout," said Futch. "I told him to move and jab more, and to throw the right hand from a shorter distance so Bonecrusher's counter would go over his shoulder."

Holmes took control, hurting Smith with a Futch-designed short right in the 11th that tore open Smith's left eyelid. Holmes continued to work on the cut in the 12th until referee Davey Pearl asked Dr. Donald Romeo to look at it. When the doctor informed Smith that the cut was serious and asked Smith if he wanted to continue, Bonecrusher said, "Call it off." The cut required 20 stitches."

I didn't say that he never lost convicigly, but he wasn't dominated by Gains, Sharkey and even Louis.

He did, even Louis didn't blow him away quickly.

At least Carnera didn't lose in his prime to someone like Marvis Frazier.

He did not win a round v Louis ,if you want to put your own interpretation on his losses that's your prerogative Mate. Carnera lost to Stribling when he was 23,Maloney when he was 28, and Gains when he was 24 with 61 fights under his belt`When was his prime?lol
    Smith beat
    Witherspoon
    Weaver
    Bey
    Ribalta
    Martin
    Tillery
    Bruno.

    Marvis beat
    Bugner
    Brown
    Tillis
    Ribalta
Carnera had102 fights how many were legit we will never know?

The point was wether it was a legitimate down or not from a punch, and it was. How hurt the fighter actually is has nothing to do with a ruling. If someone punches you and ANY of your body parts other than your feet touch the ground it's a down (even if it's just a glove grazing thr canvas for a split second).

Tyson actually produced one one of these when he dropped James Tillis who wasn't really hurt, but his legs were way off balance and he got up fairly quickly. You can follow Tyson's eye sight and see him glancing at Tillis' legs before throwing the punch: he knew he was off balance and went for it. That's what a good professional fighter does, be mindful of your surroundings and everything your opponent is (or isn't) doing. You get a 10-8 round automatically so even if it doesn't hurt the opponent that bad, it's a win/win (plus emotional damage).

So yes, it was a legitimate knockdown since Smith landed a punch (albeit a very awkard and ugly one but Tyson's jaw and neck moved from the impact) and Tyson went down. The ref either didn't see it because of how fast it happened (and it was an odd angle in the corner) or he was playing favorites. To be fair, Smith wasn't doing himself any favors with all his clinching and spoiling tactics which led to boos from the crowd, but it shouldn't matter. A knock down is a knock down and you have to control your bias and rule it as such.

    I think so.
How much of Harry Greb have you seen? Sometimes results tell the story.
None of them is better than Sharkey, whom Carnera beat.

I don't see how Marciano's stamina of all things becomes suspect against larger people

What are Maloney's results?I don't think Carnera legitimately beat Sharkey, I think he dived.
