Sad day indeed Jurgen! Was the sports guest at my high school sports presentation night in 1999! Was a bit to young to appreciate how good he was ! Just remember my dad making me have as many pictures as possible with him! RIP
Met him at one of Ross Minter's fights at the Excel Arena then went on to youtube when informed he was a UK legend in the ring. Watched the whole 15 rounds of his fight with Vito Antuofermo and then the Hagler fight - those days must have been brutal and there was no Tony Bellew turning the back when facing adversity. Made time to interact with the fans and the excitement when older fans seen him said it all.
Minter, who became a star in America when he fought on the undercard of Muhammad Ali's bout against Leon Spinks in 1978, died yesterday in a Guildford hospital.
He always seemed like a completely down to earth and likeable bloke when he was interviewed. RIP Alan.
RIP champ. Was only watching an old fightbof his aboutva week ago. Will try and rewatch some others in the coming days!
Why didn't Minter have some sort of role as a co-commentator or boxing analyst on TV? He was likeable, open, completely at ease in front of the camera and when being interviewed. I would have thought he'd be perfect for that type of role. Was it because his image had been damaged after the build-up to and particularly the aftermath of the Hagler fight?
