A few questions, 1.How many bigger opponents has Khabib faced? 2. That tree stump from Brazil beat Khabib Clearly!! Khabib, good skills on display but at this point he's almost becoming a hype job.
I hate to say it because I love his skillset, but his resume is very thin. The McGregor win sounds good in terms of name value, but that was the worst version of him we've ever seen. His body was soft, his reactions were slow and he looked like he was coming off a a drug bender. He was probably still top ten, but a far cry from the guy who crushed Alvarez. The Dos Anjos win was good. Dos Anjos was about 5th in the world at the time, but this was before he hit his prime with the Pettis and Cerrone wins as champion. And I think Dos Anjos was always an overachiever that made himself good through sheer effort after early setbacks, but was never the most talented or skilled guy in the world. Poirier was a really good win and probably the best notch on Khabib's belt. I never expected him to beat Holloway and he proved himself to finally be an truly elite guy with that win before Khabib dealt with him in relative ease and finished him. Barboza was a good win as well. But although he was top 10 at this point, I believe he was already on the decline. Ferguson beat the best version of him in my opinion. Al Iaquinta is a good, solid fighter, but nothing more than that. Other than that, his resume is very sparse. I think he made a big mistake letting that Ferguson fight slip through his fingers. It would have been a legit top 10 p4p name to add to his resume and would have been in his absolute prime. I think that's why Khabib is so desperate for the GSP fight. He knows that even a win over the practically 40 year old GSP would still be viewed very highly as a win over a two-division champion and an all time great. He needs to do some work very quickly, especially if he really does intend to retire soon.
He's very good at what he is best at but his striking is garbage and one day it will let him down. I'm also sick of people crapping on about a 28-0 record when 20 of those wins were cans. I also thought he lost to Gleison Tibau in the ufc. He won't fight up a weight at 170 where there are some great wrestlers like him and wants GSP to come down to 155 for a possible superfight. That's ridiculous and no fan should applaud that.
Well, that was a close fight. You'll find people who scored it for Tibau and you'll find people who awarded it to Khabib. 30-27 probably one-sided BS cards, i had it 29-28 Khabib but can't argue 29-28 Tibau either.
I dont think tibau won but khabib didnt maul him and people forget about that fight when they say khabib mauled EVERYONE he faught. I think he is overrated and mightt pull out of the gaethje fight or find some excuse.
Khabib is definitely not overrated. He might be one-dimensional though. Mixed Martial Arts is what it is. I think Gaethje/Khabib will come down to Gaethje footwork/ring iq/TDD. Gaethje TDD was never really tested. He has very good wrestling credentials, let's see how good they really are. Could be a very good fight if JG can avoid the cage hugging of Khabib and the ground.
