There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity! I admire Dillian’s desire to get back in the mix and perhaps from the business perspective and trying to regain the mandatory position it’s the only choice ? I feel that Povetkin will be harder to beat 2nd time around not only from a confidence point of view but being a more technical based fighter than Whyte he would have absorbed more about what works etc. My worry for Dillian is he thinks the result was a fluke and that lightening doesn’t strike twice .
I agree with you. There’s definitely a chance he’s underestimating Povetkin (again) here. However, I’ve been highly critical of Whyte in the past but I’m gona praise him for this. I hate the fact that boxers fight every 6/7 months (sometimes less) these days. I think he deserves credit for a) jumping in with Povetkin straight after lockdown in the first place and b) going straight for an immediate rematch. We’ve seen the likes of Joyce v Dubois delayed because of corona so can only praise the athletes who are making compromises to get decent fights done at this time.
Shot to smithereens old Alec povetkin will fancy this I reckon, five rounds in with a crude operator like Whyteleafe - having been caught twice by him and then switching his lights off, he knows Whyteleafes toolkit inside out now and will be brimming with confidence he can old man him again here, show him a couple more wrinkles he’s never seen before. same way the shot to hell old ghost of VLADD without a win in three years had enough GUILE in his armory to stroll out of retirement and take a crude banger like Joshua life and death and nearly stop him, POV could give Whyteleafe kittens here. Whyteleafe should have enough to stay away until old man wears out completely - four or five rounds - then start slugging him out. But I don’t write off the possibility of another brutal highlight reel Ko on that abysmal glass jaw Whyteleafe is sporting.
Maybe, yeah Whyte deserves some credit but he literally has zero choice, Hearn has said so, he can't sit out and have a little tune up.. he is trying to snatch back that mandatory position. Also I don't think he will underestimate Povetkin, but I'll think Whyte will be gunshy, over cautious and under tremendous pressure.. I actually think Povetkin does him again and quicker. It will be far harder for Whyte to demoralise Povetkin, break him, because Povetkin now KNOWS he only needs to land one decent shot, he might not put Whyte out like he did the first time but Whyte has been dropped multiple times now and we know he can be hurt.
Whyte deserves credit for getting back in as does a 41 year old Povetkin! Honestley this is Hearn desperate to get his blocker back in place. Are WBC even guaranteeing he will be mandatory again if he wins?
I don't think the WBC are guaranteeing anything, I think Hearn said he will speak to them after the rematch (assuming Whyte wins) and basically plead the case that nothing's changed.
The first fight was a great entertaining fight between 2 of better HWs in the division. I'm looking forward to rematch.
He got complacent and messed up....his reward is more PPV loot and the accolades from his fans for dealing with a shot old fighter who’s still being passed off as this big threat in the division. Most of us know what we saw before that 5th round. His speed, timing, movement, balance and durability had significantly declined and he looked all his 41 years.
Nonsense, so sky commentary hoodwinked their fan base into believing. outside of the 4th Pov was comfortable. Make no mistake, the same outcome is going to happen, skilled technicians and amateur standouts eat brawlers who lack basics fundamentals like Whyte for breakfast everyday of the week Can’t wait to see it happen all over again. Whyte is nothing but a Matchroom charlatan who has no place headlining his own PPVs and has been sparked out cold by the first world class opponent he has fought
The PPV Mugths being rogered to death now - people are now outside dancing and laughing on Pudding Street.
Great point. Dillian is a proper fighting man. He may be raw and not the most gifted, but he can fight and is willing to take chances. Great for the fans.
