Would be great for the fans if the PPV Mugths were not being exploited for the Inter Continental PED Pudding with custard title.
Povetkin is highly skilled always has been no doubt about his pedigree. But that fight with whyte he looked incredibly slow and simply.....old. I hope he hammered matchroom and got a great payday for the rematch. main points regarding the rematch that bother me are- 1-this fight was never pay per view. Just because Hearn makes whyte fight on ppv doesn’t make him a ppv fighter. 2-rematch isn’t ppv either, nobody is talking about this no matter how much matchroom or sky try to hype it. 3-why does it warrant an immediate rematch? Simply because there was a clause? Usually a rematch is after a close fight or a disputed decision not when you get knocked unconscious. 4-by matchrooms past narrative shouldn’t povetkin now be fighting fury now and deserve the shot? whyte simply isn’t at the top level. I admit I’m not a fan of his, I don’t know why as he comes across as sound during interviews. It’s a con by matchroom to have another ppv heavyweight if Joshua gets banjoed again. Fury would demolish whyte, AJ woukd KO him early as would wilder.
Watched Hearns Povetkin Vs Whyte II announcement, Hearn really annoys me, it's the same old crap. All this "it's a must win fight", when is a fight NOT a "must win"? Also we heard all this a few months ago, then we are told after the event that there is a rematch clause. I think this is a hard sell, a month before Christmas, people are struggling NOW, we may be in another lockdown.. also we will have AJ Vs Pulev, Usyk Chisora? Fury In a PPV somewhere? you can't just keep slinging events on PPV forever because you want people to believe these fighters are all PPV. Personally, I don't think people will buy this PPV unless the undercard is very good, Hearn makes it clear he caters to the "casual" fans, well casual fans normally ride a hype train, they jump on bandwagons and when somebody falls off.. they normally jump off. Whyte isn't seen as a legitimate threat to the top heavyweights now, his reputation has suffered greatly, he was knocked spark out by a 41 year old in Hearns backyard. But I expect Hearn to take huge liberties, he will need to fill AJ's undercard with solid fights, then the Usyk Vs Chisora undercard.. so what she left? Dave Allen, David Price, Hughie Fury, Shannon Courtenay?
The first 3 rounds, Povetkin was just about hanging in there with a fighter he wouldn’t have lost a round against a year or 2 back. He was eating the jab, and Whyte was cruising without overexerting himself. You’re preaching to the converted regarding the commentary and I had the first 3 rounds very close but the decline in Povetkin was huge, even from the Hunter fight (which he lost). I almost felt sorry for him he was so slow and off balance. He clearly couldn’t do the things he used to do. Father Time comes for every fighter, whom inevitably go on for too long and they end up losing to fighters who would never have had any success against them in their pomp. Povetkin is getting chinned in the rematch.
The cost is £0.00 for me as usual as it is a disgrace that existing Sly Sports Subscribers have to pay extra to watch a non title pudding contest. Never bought a PPV and never will as a matter of principle. I will be watching with the Matchroom Birdie Song Theme playing in the background on MTV.
Hearn sounding a bit desperate as regards to fans- it’ll be a bit nippy for his back garden in November.
True the Ref didn’t count to 10 as it looks like he was trying to get him into recovery position ! anyone who thinks that Whyte was going to be able to continue to fight after such a heavy knockout is deluded.
He doesn’t even count, it’s waved off straight away. Must be getting mixed up with his best mate getting bingo’d against Usyk.
