Can’t believe Young even got a vote. To many losses to bad opponents . For argument sake even if he got the decision against old Ali it still wouldn’t top Charles resume.
You don’t like Joe Louis? Archie Moore? Rex Layne? Jimmy Bivins? Elmer Ray? Joey Maxim? Lloyd Marshall? Lee Oma? Bob Satterfield*? Young literally has one good win should have had one or two more but even then his record is thin in comparison.
Years ago I had a book that showed the records of every boxer in the IBHoF at the time. It showed where the opponent was ranked, if he was, at the time of the fight, and if the opponent ended up in the hall himself. The number of fights that Charles had with top 10 opponents and future HoF members is very impressive.
Are you thinking of the Boxing Register? I find that book very helpful for that reason. When you see that a guy fought so many ranked fighters....Ranked at the time of the actual fight..... it becomes very impressive.
Well, of course Ezzard Charles had the greater resume...damn...but Jimmy Young's greatness and qualities as a defensive genius, and the top fighters of his time that he defeated, but got screwed over by the biased/blind/crooked judges of his day, so that he didn't win those fights...begs for a totally different thread concept and a more suitable criteria, This content is protected
Ezzard Charles is a consensus top 5 ( in some circles top 3 ) all time great. Jimmy Young’s resume is nowhere near that
