This content is protected Dana goes in pretty arrogantly in this BT-interview. We'll see how far Dana will go in this, rotten to the core, boxing sport. I'm not even a fan of the UFC/MMA. But they get the fights fans want to see on over there. Adesanya vs Costa would have taken at least 2 years to make in boxing terms.
Probably signed some local area promotion onto his UFC Fightpass, or something like that. The RJJ promotion cards have been decent on it. Not sure what else they have showed. I am pretty sure they also showed Ioka vs Palicte, as Palicte was promoted by Jones. Hey, maybe they will bring more Japanese boxing to the USA market? Would be something.
Might be good. Idea for tournament like WBSS format, maybe initially with 16 boxers in first fight, then 8 boxers remains, then 4, then 2 and final? Really this stuff might look promising, otherwise very long time to negotiate fights, difficult to see top5 , top 10, top 20 guys fighting each other without multiple clauses etc.
I don’t see this a negative thing. More promotion means more fight. The only thing we can hope for is that these are quality fights.
Dana isn't gonna make any real waves in boxing. He is underestimating how hard it is to work with other promoters and tv networks and sanctioning bodies in order to make the big fights. No one likes each other and they are all trying to take each other out of the business. Dana thinks he is gonna walk into big time boxing and take over UFC style - he is in for a rude awakening.
Difficult to tell. Yes, your comment does have plenty and a lot of truth but today looks that UFC and Dana are doing pretty well despite covid. Money might help them a lot, still yeah, different pro boxing orgs and boxers managers, not easy to negotiate with them.
Dana is the combat sports promoter GOAT. I wouldn't be shocked if he pulls out something big. Boxing is totally done and definitely dying so yeah he's right. The MMA model is THE model how boxing should be structured. No bull**** belts. No bull**** fights all the time. Let's go DANAAA!!!
It's only doing well because MMA fighters don't fall under the protection of the Ali Act. Dana started out so long ago that he was able to get in and build the sport under the radar until he made it into a monopoly. There is no way a boxer would ever sign an exclusive deal with a network to only defend their title, the sanctioning bodies will work together to get Dana outta boxing if he tries to come in and devalue their belts with a UFC style boxing belt. Ask yourself which top level prospect let alone top level world champion is gonna sign that kinda contract and then even worse, sign on to fight for the kinda purses that Dana pays his fighters. Dana will get beat the **** up by a boxer before that will happen. Boxing is fragmented but they will unify to get Dana outta here with the quickness.
Boxing fans should have no issues with the "recognized belts", unification fights make boxing even more exiting and determine the undisputed recognized Champion. The champion that beat other champions in unification fights. This champion deserves to have all those beautiful looking belts, they just look too cool on the "Real" Champ. Wish these unification fights would be made.
To be honest, Dana getting involved in boxing can only be a good thing considering the **** show it is at the minute.. break the monopoly of the big 4 promoters somewhat .. UFC has handled the Covid thing brilliantly, whereas boxing has just put out horrendous content mostly up until now
