Proksa - European level at best and lost to domestic level Kerry Hope Macklin - As above Stevens - A journeyman with a hard punch Geale - Past his best and went 1-3 in his last 4 fights Murray - Granted a good win but not comparable to wins over McCallum and Nunn
It’s now clear that you don’t want to debate. There’s been no breakdowns. No in-depth analysis of their best performances or skills. All you’re doing is focusing on the worst versions of Toney. And then when you get called out on it you just get defensive and aggressive.
You joined the thread. You read the opening post. You read the criteria. Yet all you’ve done is focused on Sanderline Williams and Dave Tiberi. I don’t think you’ve made a post without referencing those 2 guys. You’re not telling me anything. If you want a debate, then debate. If you don’t, then move along.
That is a post with some quality finally although in my opinion you are not paying enough tribute to the stylistic ingredients of this particular matchup. You should have started like this from the outset instead of jumping on the train with posters with limited intelligence like Mendoza and BCS8. You made the mistake in focusing on the Toney’s worst performances at the beginning so it is a bit hard for me to lend all that much credibility to your analysis now, Maybe next we can have a more interesting debate.
You keep quoting me and I've explained all this a few times now. I just told you a couple of posts ago that in my opinion Golovkin's power, workrate and pressure are his assets, Toney had good work rate in his prime, a great chin and superior defense. It would be a close fight imo and likely goes to points. How many times do you need to be told? Is there something wrong with your reading comprehension, seriously? You're actually tedious now.
I don't need to jump on any train with anybody. I don't need the approval of people on internet forums to give my opinions and I don't need to be on anybody's side. I don't need to agree with you or anyone else here.
Yeah but see it is a forum, so opinions and approvals or disapprovals are given whether you like it or not,.Otherwise there would be not point of having a debate. It is in the nature of forum dscusssions
Most people don't debate though. They don't know how to. They lecture and engage in points scoring and don't accept others viewpoints. Any debate about a hypothetical match that never happened like GGG-Toney can only go so far before all the same points get rehashed over and over. Both even had great chins so neither had a major weakness like durability. The bout likely goes to points. Some people labor the points to thresholds of boredom until it's all been said over and over. This topic must be done now.
As I said, this has been done eslewhere, before. On a different site to this one there was a poll taken and an article written on the topic (April 2020). https://www.bad left hook.com/2020/4/13/21218720/fantasy-boxing-matchup-gennadiy-golovkin-vs-james-toney-dream-fight-fan-vote-who-wins Golovkin came out ahead over Toney by 717 votes to 661. So this idea that the people that think GGG would win this are somehow a tiny minority and off their rocker, is incorrect. We are a minority on this site, which always has big support for Toney. That view is not universal.
I don't think I am going out on a limb here, when I suggest that you perhaps suffer from a lack of self-awareness. For you, yes - since some several pages back, I'd guess.
Would he have though? How certain can we be? How many southpaws has he fought? He’s struggled against his best opposition in Jacobs and Canelo. You can cite his age, but from what I’ve seen he’d always have had tough fights against those guys. Mike McCallum was a better fighter than Canelo and Jacobs. So we don’t know that he could have beaten Mike. Not forgetting that Toney fought all 3 of those guys in just a 9 month period along with 2 other fights.
