Man, Ruhlin looks horrible. Ducks straight forwards straight down, turns his back and literally runs away, ducks. He's scared of Jeffries i guess.
My problem in what I can make out of Jeffries on film is his almost non-existent defense. I'll give him a pass in this clip because he is chasing down a wounded foe. But in blowing up and slowing down the Sharkey footage, it's the same story.
Best comparison would be Frazier late in Foreman I, but if you clipped that, Frazier would look atrocious too.
Some analysis. Jeffries back is turned to us, and that robs us of some of the most vital information, but he is obviously pressuring Ruhlin on the inside. Ruhlin does actually show some half decent head movement, but he quickly decides that he wants out of the situation.
Ruhlin looks half decent in the first couple of clips of the fight, scoring while on the back foot, but he seemed to go to pieces all at once.
Even before he turns and runs, Ruhlin does seem to keep his head moving, so that it doesn't present a static target. After his recent experience with Bob Fitzimmons Esq, it is not hard to imagine that his confidence could have been broken. Even so, we have all seen Joe Frazier turn and run from George Foreman, and nobody questions his courage!
