What do you think? Morrison around in the early 1900 s, gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship held by JJJ himself. Rules of the day and 25 round.
Nobody even knocked down Jeffries (let's forget about the farce that Johnson fight was), yet you bet on 1st round KO? Sounds illogical to me.
1900s rules don't help Morrison. He had terrible stamina and he's not used to fight with smaller gloves. Jeffries by KO sounds reasonable to me.
I picked Jefferies to win With that being said, a 220 lb Morrison is a different level puncher to Fitz or Sharkey, both of whom were terrific but i doubt they could crack like Tommy Morrison has a punchers chance vs most guys, but Jefferies probably weathers the storm, and breaks him down late.
Jeffries didn't fight anyone who hit a 1/4 as hard as Morrison or who was 1/4 as good. His skill level probably wouldn't see him get through the amateurs to make the pros in the modern era.
His stamina will never come into play since he'll KO Jeffries in 2-3 rounds tops, my guess in round 1. Some boxers back then did more wrestling than actual boxing.
I like Morrison here but maybe not by a massive vote of confidence. Jeffries was a tough SOB and could probably take Tommy's best and keep bearing in. If Tommy don't get the job done by 8, then I'm giving it to Jeffries.
I'm certain that Fitzsimmons was much better than Morrison, even if smaller. You simply assume that whole era wasn't good then, despite this hypothetical being in 1900s rules, not in 1990s, which gives Jeffries even bigger edge.
If being a great fighter in Jeffries era counts for anything, I mean anything at all, then he should be favored!
